Is there anything in your life you can point to where you made a mistake that ended in a positive change or some surprisingly spectacular results? Not only do we all make mistakes in our daily lives, but even the most professional and successful blockbuster directors and filmmakers can make a massive misstep at times. Although it does not always result in a loss, there are scenarios when it is the best thing that could possibly happen in the movie, and it results in the best scene that we can see on our televisions.
Directing a film is a challenging task itself. However, the masterminds behind the blockbuster movies make it a point to pay attention to even the smallest details in their films in order for them to be released perfectly as possible. But, sometimes an unexpected mistake might add to the story as if it had been part of a well-executed plan all along.

1. A scene from “Guardians of the Galaxy” where Chris Pratt has actually dropped this ball.
After reaching an agreement on the fate of the orb for which they had fought so hard, the characters finally met the merchant to whom they would sell it. Chris Pratt pulls out the stone to display it in the foreground. However, the gem slips from his grasp, forcing him to bend down swiftly to pick it up, then return to his starting posture as if nothing had happened, eliminating any solemnity from the scene. That scenario was unplanned; the actor dropped the object and had to pick it up before it hit the ground. He did it with such charm that the director had no doubts about including it in the film
2. Star Wars: Episode IV – Stormtrooper bangs his head on door.
When a battalion of soldiers enters the Death Star control room to seek for C-3PO and R2-D2, they are hiding in the Death Star control room. A stormtrooper then bangs his head on the door, which was lower than he imagined. The director found the moment amazing, so he not only chose to leave it but also instructed production to add sound to the hit so it wouldn’t go unnoticed.
3. Zoolander: When Ben Stiller forgot his lines…
In the scene where the hand model, played by David Duchovny, concluded explaining to the main character why Mugatoo’s Machiavellian schemes need male models to be carried out, Zoolander inquired again: “But why do they choose male models?” After an uncomfortable pause between the characters, Duchovny replies, “Are you serious? I just explained it to you.”
“Right,” says a confused Zoolander, and the film resumes regularly following the joke. That was not a planned conversation. In actuality, Ben Stiller had forgotten his lines and was baffled when the question was repeated. The moment was not cut, and it was thought to be a mistake that complemented the character extremely well.
4. Rogue One: When Android K 2S0 unintentionally hits his partner.
In one episode, the actor portraying the android K 2S0 unintentionally hits his partner, Diego Luna. “And I have another one just like it if you talk again.”
If you pay great attention to the scene, you’ll note that the beaten-up actor had to hide his face with his hand to hide his laugh. Despite these unexpected events, the scene was left as it is since the joke was best suited for the character’s sense of humor.
5. Remember this scene from Fast & Furious 6, where both actors had an uncontrollable laugh!
Tyrese Gibson tells Johnson, “Save the baby oil,” during a talk. Dwayne Johnson, far from being silent, responds, “You better hide that big head.”
That remark was not in the screenplay and came as such a surprise that the actor, Ludacris, couldn’t help but giggle in the middle of the act. Such spontaneity and the resulting uncontrollable laughter were ideal because they highlighted the characters’ natural reactions.
6. A scene from “Lord of the Rings” where Gandalf strike his head!
It all begins when Gandalf pays a visit to his friend Bilbo, who as a hobbit, lives in a dwelling of a relatively small size house. Gandalf was supposed to collide with a candlestick. What was not specified was that he should strike his head on a roof beam as it happened, which became a sort of punchline to the candlestick joke and was left in the picture.
7.The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, A Windy Day!
The moment when the flag is flown in the scene, however poetic it may have been at the time it was not intended. It was a windy day and the flag appeared to be poorly tied. Nonetheless, it was kept in the final edit since it was thought to be a magnificent metaphor for everything that would occur afterwards.
8. An unexpectedly perfect mistake from “The Princess Diaries” movie!
When the main heroine, Mia, played by Anne Hathaway talks to a friend while mounting the steps in the playground, she accidently slips and falls. Some of the cast members wanted to go rescue her, but she decided to keep the scene going by laughing at her clumsiness and continuing the dialogue she was having in character. And this mistake resulted in one of the best scene from the movie: The Princess diaries!
9. Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark: A Fly Few Into Actor’s Mouth!
A fly flew in the actor’s mouth during the scene in which the villain, played by Paul Freeman, gets hired by the Nazis to develop an evil plan. The actor continued to perform as if nothing had happened. The production team eventually determined that the actor had swallowed the insect.
10. The Dark Knight: Hospital Explosion!
The production team only had one shot at the hospital explosion. The scene was typical until the switch that was supposed to explode the bomb failed. Fortunately, Heath Ledger stayed in character and continued to push buttons till it finally worked. It was a tense scene but thanks to Heath Ledger for turning the scene into one of the most unexpectedly hilarious scenes.
11. Midnight Cowboy: A Car Honking!
Regardless of how much planning is done, the truth is that not all films are granted the necessary permits to begin production. In the case of this film, they couldn’t secure permission to shoot on all of New York’s streets, but the filmmaker opted to do it anyhow without informing the authorities. As a result, while Dustin Hoffman was acting in the scene when he was crossing the street without looking while talking, he forced a car to come to a stop near him. To avoid hitting him, the vehicle honked his horn. “Hey, I’m walking here!” the actor shouted to the driver.
