Employee leave requests are a common occurrence in any workplace. These requests could be for a variety of reasons, such as illness, personal emergencies, family vacations, or simply a need to take some time off to recharge. However, it is not uncommon for some bosses to reject these requests, often without a valid reason. This can be frustrating and demotivating for employees, and can even lead to negative consequences for the organization as a whole.

The impact of rejecting employee leave requests can be significant, both for the employee and the organization. Employees who are repeatedly denied leave requests may become disengaged, leading to decreased job satisfaction and productivity. This can lead to higher turnover rates, which can be costly for the organization in terms of time, money, and resources.

Additionally, rejecting leave requests can also lead to legal issues for the organization. In many countries, employees are entitled to a certain amount of paid leave each year, and denying these requests can result in legal action being taken against the employer. It is therefore important for bosses to understand their legal obligations and to handle leave requests in a fair and consistent manner.

At times bosses can come across as very insensitive when they reject leave requests which have pretty sensitive reasons behind them like attending a family member’s funeral, being at your own freaking wedding, or attending to someone who is not well. I mean, what option are you left with than to leave the organization when you are not allowed by your boss to attend your own wedding? This is where you really start considering your choices of joining the company in the first place.

I also have a similar experience to share.

I remember my friend applied for 3 leaves out of his 7 available paid leaves to attend the wedding of his sister, his very own biological sister. He thought getting a leave would be not a problem because he had once applied for a 7-day leave about 3 years ago to go on a trip. I was part of that trip and HR accepted his leave request within 6 hours. But this time it took time and when he did get a response, it was a rejection. He couldn’t believe it, and there was no way he was going to miss his sister’s wedding. So, he gave in his 2-week notice and within an hour he got an email to ignore the previous email about leave rejection and that his leave had been accepted. My friend has a very wealthy father so he attended his sister’s wedding, got paid, and still left the company.

These terrible bosses do not realize the true worth of their employees and it is impossible for an organization to survive like this. So bad!
