Every animal has its limitations. And as its owner, you must be well aware of them because you never want to risk your animal’s welfare for anyone or any reason at all. You can only decide what is best for your animal when you are well aware of it and when you understand its behavior, its personality, its attitude, and, again, what can it do best and where will it struggle.

Today’s story is about a Reddit user krr0421 who owns two horses. They take the horses to trail riding up a mountain near their barn. OP often calls their friends and they ride the horses on the trail together. However, OP gives it a deep thought before selecting who gets to ride which horse because she understands the suitabilities, behaviors, and limitations of her horses very well. Usually, OP rights the younger house because she is sensitive and lets the friends ride the older one because it is mature and call handle situations well.

One time an overweight friend of OP wanted to ride OP’s young horse but OP refused to let her sit on the horse. The general rule of thumb is that a horse can carry 20% of its weight and that friend was exceed that limit by a lot. The refusal angered the friend and she accused OP of body shaming.

Not knowing if it was correct to refuse, OP took the matter to the subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?“.

2. The older one really is in great shape for its age.

3. You know OP loves their horses deeply when are so familiar with their behaviors and emotions.

4. Yup, it is a good thing that OP gives it a good thought before selecting who gets to ride which horse.

5. Not to sound offensive in any way but the horse would’ve struggled to carry that much weight. It was only right that OP refused.

6. The friend, for some reason, decides she is being body-shamed.

""

7. OP stood their ground as they didn’t want to compromise the welfare of their animal to make someone happy.

8. Slightly uncertain about whether they did right or not, OP decided to call upon the sacred community members of AITA to resolve things once and for all.

9. This is a story from the past but curiosity wanted OP to know whether what they did was right or wrong.

""

10. They all can ride…but on suitable horses.

11. She is always welcome to come and chill at the space, and pet the horses…but she cannot ride OP’s horses because they are not suitable for her.

You guys already know my stance on this. NTA. OP was only being careful here and that is all. She did not want to be unjust to her horses just because someone was so eager to ride a horse. It would’ve been highly unethical of OP had she let her overweight friend sit on her horses. Maybe one day when OP gets a more suitable horse, the friend will get to ride it. But for now, I really like that OP stood their ground and did not let emotions get in the way.

16. That is how it should be. If you’re overweight for riding a horse, then you are. You are not being body shammed, you are just being told that the horse you sit on will really struggle to carry you. So it is in the best interest of both, that you don’t ride it.

Cat tax.

“He became a housecat for us. He was previously an indoor/outdoor cat that we rented. The owner passed away suddenly and his daughter rented to us. When she decided she wanted the house back, we were heartbroken that the cat would stay with his home, but we wanted him to be happy. Apparently, staying was not his idea of happiness. The landlord called us to come and get him because he was not a good fit for her. He seems perfectly content at our new house as an indoor-only cat. He took to a litter box well. He loves sitting in the windows to watch the birds and squirrels. He gives us tons of purrs and snuggles. So glad we’re part of his happiness.”
