Think before you fire someone.

Our managers and directors love to hang the knife of firing above our heads every day. It is as if they feel powerful knowing they can ruin our lives at any moment. As many people get drunk with power and think everyone in the workforce is replaceable, except them of course.

Maybe one day they will learn their lesson but today is not that day. As you see this HR manager thought firing someone that they desperately needed in the nick of time was the best idea. And then they had the audacity to ask them to train the new employee. I don’t know about you but I would never train the person who is basically replacing me. And if I do, I would ask for extra pay.

However, this person had something else in mind for his part in this sweet revenge.

Doesn’t it always start with a job that they are not completely happy with?

""

However, he had already found his dream job and was so close to leaving.

""

You would think an extra hour wouldn’t be a big deal especially since he only had two days left at this job.

""

However, he learned that was not the case soon enough when he got fired.

""

The HR manager really didn’t think this through if you ask me.

""

Honestly, I feel bad for the young attorney, he didn’t do anything wrong.

""

But then again the HR manager got all that she deserved.

""

That last statement just makes this interaction all the worthwhile.

Some jobs just tire you out.

I studied Human Resource Management for two years, thinking it would be a really cool position to negotiate between employees and management. I learned a lot of theory on how being nice to your employees is actually good for the company financially. Full of hope and good intentions I started an internship.

My internship company taught me it is often cheaper to not give employees their legal rights, as most won’t dare to sue anyway. For the few that do, they always settle with a small payoff to keep the leaving employee quiet.

Slightly disillusioned from my experience, I started asking around: Surely this was not the norm? It was.

I stopped working to get that degree and switched to something that allows me to sleep at night. –

And you got an extra two days of rest as well!

""

Thinking everyone is expendable can sometimes bite you in the a**.
