You can’t force an employee to work.

I’ve been in this situation and it is never nice. While it is usually customary to give notice when you fire someone or someone wants to quit but it is not ‘essential’. However, it is nice to give your boss some time to find your replacement or schedule another person for your shifts. Although that doesn’t mean a manager can refuse your resignation without any grounds.

Honestly, I have never heard of someone refusing to let an employee go and acting in such a creepy way as well. Not only was he weirdly creepy with calling his female employees ‘honey’ and other names, but he also didn’t promote qualified women. All in all, he was a sexist pig. So I am surprised she even wanted to give him notice in the first place.

I don’t think she even needed to ask this question. We all know the answer already.

""

He sounds like an awful person and not at all fun to work with, I assume.

""

I myself call many people sweetie but never in a professional context. That is just plain weird.

""

You were absolutely well within your rights to do that and he didn’t deserve notice in the first place.

""

Your coworkers are angry at the wrong person. You offered two weeks, he is the reason you didn’t work them. That mentality is so common.

Instead of being mad at their boss or corporate low wage employees are always getting mad at each other. I work in food service and I hear it all the time. –DisconnectTheDots

She tried the resignation method, it did not work so it’s not her fault.

""

Exactly, you owe him nothing.

I’ve been working for 20+ years in a corporate type job. 2 weeks is a courtesy that we as employees give to our employer. Make no mistake, many employers can give us exactly ZERO notice when they separate us from the company.

You are NOT beholden to treat them better than they treat you. Since this person didn’t treat you that well, you are 100% in the right.

Congratulations on the new position! –BisquickNinja

He really was something. Glad she got out of that work environment.

""

It didn’t work out in the way he had hoped now did it?

""

That is different though, it was a nice move on the bosses part.

"" ""

All that matters is she got away from that creepy and all is well in the world now.
