If you have ever been to the City of Bali, you would know that this place is filled with stray dogs. Fortunately, there are shelters and clinics present in that area that try to help these dogs. They try to provide as much as possible, but of course, there is only too much someone can do. With these many stray animals, it gets overwhelming for them. This shows that taking care of animals should not only be the responsibility of shelter homes and animal clinics. The onus should be on every person in a community. We should make sure that we help any wounded and poor animal we see on the street. They are all alone with no support. Unlike us, they cannot work jobs to earn money and feed themselves. We all should aim to make their lives better.

Fortunately, there are some very loving and beautiful people that exist who make their life’s purpose to help animals. Aaron is one of those good samaritans who did exactly what we are urging you all to do. While Aaron was driving on a road in his area, he saw an injured dog on the road. The dog looked very dejected and in pain. It did not look like he had any support. Aaron showed extreme kindness and compassion when he decided to take that poor dog to his home. He named the dog “Homer”. Because of all the support and love, Aaron showered the dog with, Homer was able to live a very healthy life. He experienced love and was able to fight cancer.

Aaron was passing by when he noticed a severely injured dog walking on the road. He could see how scared and nervous the dog was.

""

“Nobody stopped for him. I’m so sorry to bring this story. I don’t like to have to post it as it breaks my heart, but it is the reality here in Bali… If you are squeamish, don’t read on, but I promise this will end as well as it can.”

When Aaron noticed the dog, it was standing on the street and seemed extremely terrified of everyone and everything around it.

""

“Driving on the bypass I saw this dog stuck in the central reserve, just sat there. I stopped, desperately worried he’d get hit by a car if I didn’t help. I enlisted the help of some local lads from a tire shop and we managed to spook the dog back onto one side of the road.”

Aaron waited not a second and rushed to the dog to rescue him. He took the poor dog with him and gave it food. The dog was not away from all the street chaos.

""

“He was hungry and dehydrated and obviously in huge amounts of pain. I thought he initially had a skin problem only, but when I got close I saw all of these tumors, which looked like they’d all popped. The poor boy must be in so much agony. It breaks my heart to know he was allowed to get like this and thousands of humans probably saw him before I did.”

When Aaron tried to feed the dog food, the dog was very hesitant at first. He was not very comfortable around Aaron. Eventually, however, the dog came around and ate the food served to him.

""

“I tried coaxing him towards me with food to no avail initially. All I wanted was to grab him but he was so scared of humans. He didn’t show any aggression at all and eventually, his belly got the better of him and he came close to me.”

Aaron was not able to take the dog with him to home so he contacted a shelter home to assist him in this.

""

“But I couldn’t grab him. He was just so scared of humans. Scared that if he got close to me it’d probably hurt him. Of course, I only wanted to help him, so was stuck at a crossroads for what to do. I couldn’t leave him there. I reached out to @bawabali_official to ask if they could help capture him and they kindly agreed to help.”

You may think that this dog was aggressive in his detachment to humans, but that wasn’t the case.

Homer had just lost trust in humankind and was hesitant to be close to them. That is so heart shattering!

""

Finally, they were able to take the dog to the clinic. The clinic was a safe space for him. All the bills were taken care of by Aaron. They named him Homer.

""

“Thankfully, they got him! I am so grateful for BAWA, as there’s no way I could have caught him on my own. The dog, who I’ve named Homer, is now at the vet receiving treatment under my account. He’s under the expert care of @sunsetvet_ubud and the best place he can possibly be right now.”

""

After examining Homer, doctors were able to conclude that Homer had caught cancer and required chemotherapy. This really scared Aaron and everyone else who was involved.

""

""

Aaron did not want Homer to feel alone and neglected any further, so he sat with him by his cage for many hours. This was to show Homer that people are there for him and care for him.

""

It took some time, but Homer eventually realised that Aaron was a safe person to be with. Homer got closer towards Aaron to sit with him.

""

Look at those adorable eyes!

""

Trying to make eye contact.

""

Aaron started to physically comfort Homer by patting him on the head and petting him generally. It was a gradual process but Homer welcomed this connection.

""

What a cutie!

""

Homer came out of his shell and started showing how loving and affectionate he was. He would also snuggle with Aaron and others who showed him love! He would also waggle his tail and play around.

""

After three months, everyone heard the happy news they all were waiting for. Homer had defeated cancer and he was healthy and improving! His beautiful white fur started to grow as time passed.

""

Aaron had been taking care of Homer for so long. Soon after a while, Aaron’s friend showed interest in adopting Homer and welcoming him in her home.

""

Are you taking a picture of me, hooman? Let me pose!

""

This was the happiest news Homer had ever heard. He was more than happy and felt so elated to have finally found his own home.

""

He was named Nungki by his new owner. Nungki found comfort in the arms of her new owner!

""

""

""

Look how cheered up he is!

""

A happy fellow with her favorite human!

""

Nungki is now healthier than ever! He has grown so much fur on his body and looks happiest. His good health reflects in his happiness. Thanks to everyone who cared so dearly for him and with so much commitment, Nungki’s trust and faith in humans have been restored.
