Simon and Leonardo, a cow and a huge tortoise struggled for a long time before they were reunited. These two best friends demonstrate that joy can be found despite adverse circumstances if we see the positive side. The zoo’s closure caused Leonardo the turtle to lose his home.
When Leonardo, an African Spurred Tortoise, was rescued from a Bangkok, Thailand zoo that was closing, he had no idea what lay in store for him. In 2013, he came to the Thailand branch of the Wildlife Friends Foundation. After being saved, Leonardo went to the WFFT Rescue Center, where he grew accustomed to and enjoyed life. However, things were about to get even better.
Simon was a young calf in 2016. He lost a leg when he got caught up in some vines. He was saved, cared for, given a prosthetic leg, and taken to an animal sanctuary by the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand. Despite losing his leg, Simon was about to make a new best friend!
Rescuers planned to introduce Simon to other bovines like him at the sanctuary. However, it appears Simon had other ideas. “We decided to house him temporarily in a large open field enclosure within the WFFT Rescue Center where he could recover from his ordeal,” WFFT wrote. “We had then planned to move him into a field where we house 2 other rescued cows.”
These two greatest friends frequently follow each other around, eat together, and take naps together. Their unexpected friendship pleased the workers and the rest of the world. It emphasizes the close relationship that true friends share and acts as a reminder that friendship is based more on internal qualities than on outward appearances or other superficial qualities.
