This Boss clearly didn’t understand their own request.
Or they wouldn’t have told their employee to take less work. Now I understand why a boss would do that since it isn’t bad advice if you are genuinely looking out for your workforce. However, that was now the reason behind this ‘concern’. Why are people are always so surprised when you do what they asked you to do in the first place? I mean the boss wanted this employee to focus only on their duties.
But when they did what was asked of them, the boss then asked them to just the opposite. I bet they are regretting their decision right about now after the employee refused to help them out since it was the ‘managers’ job and they were clearly not the manager. Revenge has never been so sweet.

Honestly, they sound like too nice of a person.
I have no idea what they were thinking when they said this.
But the original poster was ready to listen and comply.
And they got right on that no matter how many time times the Boss asked them to do tasks, not in their job description.
Good for you sticking to your guns. Too many people get steamrolled. –andrewgazz
She was clearly in a tight spot here.
And asked the employee to help but, of course, they couldn’t.
Good on you for trying your best!
And they leave us with a sweet ending message.
Good advice coming from a boss who is not so intelligent.
This is very true and I am absolutely OK with someone looking out for my best interests, my issue lays in that boss has been getting stick for her work and I think there has been given feedback to her boss about how much I do from colleagues and other agencies we work with which I guess has filtered down, hence trying to put down my work. –more-input
That is exactly how that happened.
That was the moment they realized that they messed up.
I don’t know if I can honestly, it might break confidentially policies? But it involves A deity, a magic stick, some NoZ, a stabbing and a baseball bat… –more-input
