Artist Creates Relatable Comics That Are Funny And Twisted

Many people assume that comics with bunnies, cupcakes, teddy bears, or flowers must be cheerful and optimistic at first glance. In the case of Ryan Pagelow, however, this is not the case. Ryan Pagelow is the creator of the popular “Buni” webcomic series. Ryan’s comics are mainly wordless and look to be funny at first, but then conclude on an unexpected, twisted, and occasionally dark note. Buni Ryan defines his main character as “a naive optimist with awful luck.” Buni is also described by the author as someone who is “constantly devastated by the real world.”

Ryan Pagelow, the author of “Buni,” states on his website that he has been drawing comics for much of his life. His art has appeared in a variety of publications, including Mad magazine. Ryan’s aesthetic mastery, however, does not end there. Ryan works as a photographer when he is not making his drawings.
