Who does not love cats or dogs? Especially kittens and puppies. Everyone does. It is quite impossible to believe that anyone would ever hate these little fluffballs. They make your life better just by being themselves, they are your buddies, your best friends, and partner in crime. However, there is continually a person available, keen enough to adopt an infant animal and that leaves a disproportionate quantity of grownup and senior cats in shelters everywhere. When it comes to adopting an older cat, you must know that it’s not something that should be taken lightly or you can’t just treat it as a “hobby”. An actual life depends upon you and before you opt to adopt an animal, you should be well prepared for it as that animal is going to require a lot of love, protection, and care. It certainly won’t happen overnight and requires sheer dedication.
On the other hand, if you have decided to bring an adult or older cat, you must be well aware and prepared that you are bringing home a cat that is more likely to need some medical services in the near future and that can be a huge responsibility. There is also a sad preconception that an adult cat is already firm in his personality and in his ways and may not be able to learn to love you and hug your family in the same way that a kitten could have.
This is the story of Dexter, who is a 20 years old adorable cat and he is right here to break down all of the stereotypical myths and get us all excited to welcome a senior kitty into our hearts and homes. And the best thing about Dexter is that he’s the kind of cat that everyone would want to have in their lives. He’s a kitty veteran and he is aware of love whilst he sees it! Dexter was a 20-year-old cat who lived in a shelter. Both the shelter people and Dexter surely thought that he would experience his retirement in the shelter, with little or no hope that he would ever have a chance to leave.

But then God decided to bless Dexter when a Utah-based Williams family arrives for Dexter’s rescue! Originally, they had a clear idea of what they wanted in their pet adoption quest and that was a kitten. At home, they had a small pack of dogs and 2 small children and it seemed like the only thing their family was missing was a kitten that needed a good forever home. But then they saw Dexter. When the Williams family went to adopt a kitten, they definitely weren’t expecting the genuine love-at-first-sight experience they had with Dexter.

According to William’s family, when they saw a fluffy black cat with a white nose and beautiful legs, their life changed completely. Dexter was the most beautiful 20-year-old cat ever … and it was the first time ever that they noticed and realized that older cats could be so affectionate and once they did, they decided to take him home. Luckily, even their dogs were amazed at how instant their love for Dexter was.

Rather than retiring to a shelter alone, Dexter the old cat lived for two full years as a devoted member of the Williams family. He gave an endless amount of love to his beloved family and the family returned it back equally. During his final years, he knew comfort, warmth, compassion, and companionship.

Dexter left behind a powerful and special message. He taught the children that it’s never too late for love. And today in his memory he shows the world that there is endless value and love in adopting a senior kitty. Everyone, cats included, can benefit from even a few final years of family life.
The story of Dexter has made us fall in love with him just as much as his new owners. He has fought against all the odds and enamored everyone in the family. Even made his own new set of friends and blew everyone away. No one would have thought that Dexter would ever be able to find that love and happiness again. Like almost all cats, Dexter became the boss and everyone could see it. No one could get past Dexter’s grumpy hours.
