Not all films are created equal.
Some will be remembered as classics that people watch over and over, while others will be quickly forgotten because of how bad they were. While there are always exceptions, such as movies that are so bad that they are actually good, we are not going to discuss any of those today. We’ll be focusing on actors who later regretted taking on roles in these films.
Now, not all of these movies or series were bad, and some were even good, but that doesn’t mean the movie role was easy. It wasn’t a good time for these celebrities, whether it was because it caused mental anguish to the actor or because it made the actor so synonymous with the character that people couldn’t tell the difference. When we think of Harry Potter, the first thing that comes to mind is the actor who played him, Daniel Radcliffe. He has become so synonymous with the character that people only recognise him because of those films.
While he doesn’t mind, some actors were not so fortunate. So today we’ll talk about some actors who had various reasons for regretting their film roles. Scroll down to see it for yourself.
#1 David Schwimmer in Friends.
Why is David on this list? I mean he was usually great in Friends. And that show is a classic that most people have watched. However, he became so synonymous with the character that even when he did different roles, people couldn’t separate Roos from the actor.
#2 Jared Leto in Morbius.
Jared Leto has been quite controversial and even his portrayal of Joker in Suicide Squad was a hit and a miss for a lot of people. However, what put the nail in the coffin was Morbius. This movie was panned all around the world and his extreme acting methods behind the scenes didn’t help his reputation either.
#3 Camila Cabello in Cinderella.
Camila tried to break into acting with this musical movie but it wasn’t great. her acting was okay for the most part and she is a great singer but the movie was just not that good.
#4 Michael Bakari Jordan in Black Panther.
Black Panther is loved by people and for good reason. But the actor who played the villain really elevated the movie. However, behind the scenes, the complex portrayal of this sympathetic villain caused him a lot of mental anguish.
#5 Angelina Jolie in Eternals.
Angelina Jolie is a respected actor so when she joined the Marvel universe, people were ecstatic. However, her portrayal in Eternals left a lot to be desired and the movie was overall quite bad as well.
#6 Pamela Anderson in Barb Wire.
Pamela thought this movie would shoot her to stardom and maybe an oscar but this ended up getting her a Golden Raspberry Award.
#7 Madonna in Die Another Day.
Madonna tried to jumpstart her acting career and she was a good actress but this particular movie really put a stop to any future roles as she was panned for her acting after this role.
#8 Dev Patel in The Last Airbender.
Dev Patel is a good actor but sometimes a script is so bad, no one can make it better. And that is what happened with The Last Airbender. So he hasn’t ventured into superhero movies ever again.
#9 Emile Hirsch in Speed Racer.
This movie was so bad that it brought down the actor with it. While he has recovered from this role, his acting career was never the same afterwards.
#10 January Jones in X-Men: First Class.
She was called out for her bad acting in the movie and to top it off, there were also a lot of rumours of her having a relationship with the director Matthew which put a damper on her acting career.
#11 Meg Ryan in Proof of Life.
This movie wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t good either and her affair with Russel Crowe dragged her image through the mud. So she took a break after this movie.
#12 Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest.
Faye has divulged that the role of Joan Crawford took a mental toll on her and there were also rumours going around saying that she treated everyone around her horribly on set which didn’t do her any favours.
#13 Mischa Barton in The O.C.
Mischa became a star when she appeared in The OC but she wasn’t ready for all the fame so she took a break and only came back to the screen three years later.
#14 Jessica Alba in An Invisible Sign.
Jessica Alba has always been a good actor but some of her roles were less than stellar and the downfall of this movie was directly linked to her awful portrayal which caused her to be pickier when it came to movie roles in the future.
#15 Hugh Grant in Did You Hear About the Morgans?
The main downfall of this movie was the lack of chemistry between Hugh and Jessica and this caused his career to go downhill. Thankfully, he did bounce back years later when he starred in movies like Cloud Atlas.
#16 Jessica Chastain in The 355.
The 355 was a mediocre movie and so she decided to move on with her life as quickly as possible to distance herself and ended up taking new roles.
