Workplace dynamics can be challenging, especially when you have to deal with unreliable coworkers.
When people work together, they rely on each other to get the job done efficiently. We can all cover up for each other while working together but if someone consistently leaves their colleague to work alone, it can cause a lot of stress and resentment. A guy shared on Reddit that it is just two people who were working at the store. OP was working for four hours and he really needed to go to the toilet. He got a little busy when his coworker walked out the door saying “I’ll be back”. OP was frustrated because this has happened so many times before and she comes back very late.
OP had to go to the toilet but he waited there for her. He waited 25 minutes but there were no signs of his coworker. OP got to the point where he could no longer wait for her so he went and locked the door. OP’s boss came to check and the door was locked. OP’s boss was mad, OP told her everything that the coworker is not at work. Coworker got written up and was sent home. The girl was mad at OP for not covering up for her. The guy’s decision not to cover for his coworker in front of their boss may seem harsh, but it’s essential to be honest in the workplace. If the boss is unaware of the coworker’s behavior, they cannot address it or offer a solution. By covering for his coworker, the guy would be enabling her behavior and it would continue to affect him negatively. Well, it was important not to cover up for her to teach her a lesson.
