Boss Scolded Employee For Wearing Shorts To Work Who Then Maliciously Complied With The Dress Code

Horrible bosses telling employees to comply with what they said can often backfire pretty hard.

The biggest error, I think, all the bad bosses of the world make is that where they go as a leader, they apply a bureaucratic structure. Like, you can’t do that. Imagine applying such a structure on Google or Facebook. What would happen? Those companies would die within a week. Leaders have to understand the mode of business and develop a structure accordingly. Among other things, a good organizational structure is one that provides comfort to the employees, the most precious assets of the company. If an employee isn’t comfortable, they won’t be as productive as you want them to be and that would be problematic for the company as a whole. But you require brain cells for such a plan and horrible bosses don’t have one.

In today’s Reddit story OP tells how the organization had been working fine, rather very good, under their previous boss as the rules and regulations were pretty relaxed. They were in place, but you had some flexibility. The same was with the dress code, there was a proper dress code mentioned in the company’s employee handbook but employees were allowed some leg room because again, the previous boss thought employee comfort is key to success. Well, that’s when the old boss left and a new boss came. The boss instantly started getting into the nitty-gritty, one of those managers who follow the code and nothing else. The new boss came around summers and OP used to wear shorts during that season as the weather would get very hot and they never faced any criticism for it ever since they had started working here. But the new boss instantly noticed the shorts and called OP up to the office and literally threatened to fire them if they didn’t comply with the formal dress code of the business. Guess what OP did? They maliciously complied with the dress code and the bad bosses regret their decision right away.

Scroll down below to read what happened and how did the boss react when OP finally wore the dress that was compliant with the code.

1. Classic case of everything was going right and then a bad boss came in.

2. The new boss is not as flexible as the previous one, in fact he is very rigid about how things should be done at the workplace.

3. Shorts shouldn’t be a problem if you’re not dealing with the general public. Comfort is key to productivity.

4. But the new boss absolutely hated seeing OP in shorts and ended up calling them to the office to confront the matter.

It’s just shorts!

5. The boss gave two options: Comply or leave.

6. And looks like OP decided to comply, right to the dot in that employee handbook that contains information about the dress code.

7. OP found out there is no rule preventing male employees from wearing skirts or kilts.

8. And they decided to order the weirdest dress one could think of, and it was compliant with the code.

Even my spine is excited.

10. OP walked straight into the office wearing the crazy pink outfit they had ordered. Everyone was shocked but the most shocked and red in the face was the boss.

The boss actually couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

You see, this is the part I don’t get. Like, if the business is doing great, and the dress code isn’t a hindrance to the overall profitability of the company, then why is the boss going so crazy over it. And the boss should also know that the kind of business he is leading doesn’t have to deal with the general public, they deal with retailers, etc. So, no interaction with general means OP is not supposed to be dressed formally. In the back office, you are allowed to be a little flexible in terms of dressing. And the main point still remains, employee comfort is what will lead the business to success.

11. The boss kept on ranting but OP requested them to just read the dress code guidelines in the handbook and then talk.

12. The boss decided to read it right there and couldn’t find a single phrase he could use against OP to fire them. There was a ton of regret on their face.

13. That one must’ve hurt so bad. He can try and hide but we all know, the horrible boss won’t be recovering from that one any time soon.

Should’ve just let him wear the shorts.

Here are some of the responses to the story:

14. Manager ended up losing their job for bashing a half-Scottish employee for wearing a kilt because he couldn’t find shorts that would be as long to cover up his knees. Why create a mess about something so little.

15. Management just can’t win by creating stupid arguments around employees not wearing the right clothes. Like, what does it matter to you? Who knows, that employee in the shorts the management plans to fire has the highest IQ score ever and was the one who was going to turn the million-dollar company into a billion-dollar one.

I really hope you guys enjoyed this malicious compliance. I think bad bosses should understand now that this trickery does not work anymore. Employees are very well aware of their rights and are knowledgeable enough to put on a real fight, with genuine reasoning becking their side of the argument. Anyways, this is super amazing.
