And sometimes even the most carefully planned events can take an unforeseen detour. Such was the case for one individual who found themselves at the center of a peculiar situation, where a seemingly innocent costume party turned out to be something entirely different.
Our protagonist, whom we shall refer to as OP, had been friends with a 20-year-old woman for several years. Recently, this friend got engaged, which called for a celebration. OP received a direct message inviting him to a small costume party organized in honor of the engagement. Excited by the prospect, OP, a passionate cosplayer, had an abundance of costume options to choose from. Little did he know that his choice of attire would inadvertently create a whirlwind of events. OP received a direct message from his friend, who recently got engaged, inviting him to a small costume party without a specific theme.
OP decided to attend his friend’s engagement party dressed as the Corpse Bride, thinking it would be amusing, only to realize upon arrival that it was actually their wedding:
OP approached his friend’s fiancé before the wedding ceremony and asked if he should go home and change his outfit, but was assured that it was fine since he was unaware it was a wedding. OP’s friend avoided talking to him throughout the event:

OP attempted to explain to his friend that he had no prior knowledge that it was a wedding and that he had sought confirmation from her husband about his outfit. However, his friend accused him of wearing a wedding dress to the event.
OP made efforts to apologize and express his lack of intent to cause any harm. However, his friend and her husband have now blocked him on all platforms.
OP appreciates everyone’s feedback but politely declines to share any photos, citing privacy reasons, and apologizes for the inconvenience.
OP cannot be deemed as TAH in this situation. OP genuinely believed he was attending a costume party and had no prior knowledge that it was a wedding. He even asked the friend’s husband if he should change, to which he received reassurance that it was fine. Considering OP’s lack of awareness and his attempt to seek guidance, it would be unfair to label him as the one at fault for not changing out of the wedding dress.
After being blocked by his friend and her husband, OP refrained from reaching out but didn’t block them back. Two days ago, his friend unblocked him and requested a call to discuss the situation. During the call, she apologized for her previous outburst but expressed that she was still upset. 
OP expresses relief that they can maintain their friendship, given their long history since the age of 14. However, it was revealed that the husband had lied to his wife about approaching OP and asking him to change, falsely claiming that OP had dismissed his request.
Both the friend and her husband blocked OP. However, the friend’s curiosity prompted her to inquire with other attendees of the wedding about the incident. Three people confirmed that OP had approached her husband and asked about his outfit, exposing the husband’s lie. The husband had harbored resentment towards OP since they first met five years ago. 
OP is confused as to why the husband waited five years before attempting to “get rid” of him. The future of the friend’s relationship with her husband remains uncertain, as she is currently staying at another friend’s house until they can have a conversation about the situation.
OP’s friend is doing better and plans to have a conversation with her husband soon. The friend has noticed discussions about potential red flags in her husband’s behavior but is unsure about how to proceed.
