HR Manager Refuses To Hire People With Pronouns In Their Bio, Faces Backlash

Employers should be open about their bigotry so trans people do not apply for such jobs.

Recently, a video surfaced on social media in which an HR Manager claimed to have refused to hire a job applicant solely based on their use of pronouns. This has sparked widespread criticism and backlash from the LGBTQ+ community and allies, who see this as a clear example of discrimination and prejudice.

In the video, the HR Manager stated that the job applicant used pronouns and referred to themselves in a gender-neutral way, which she assumed meant that the applicant was very liberal and likely to be lazy and entitled. This attitude is not only discriminatory but also completely unfounded. Using gender-neutral pronouns is not an indicator of a person’s work ethic or level of entitlement. In fact, research has shown that diverse teams are more productive and innovative, and employees who feel respected and valued are more likely to be engaged and committed to their work. In a TikTok video, the HR manager shared her experience of interviewing a woman who used pronouns.

It is not the place of an HR Manager to make assumptions about an applicant’s character or work ethic based on their use of pronouns or any other personal characteristic. HR Managers are responsible for ensuring fair and unbiased hiring practices and this includes avoiding any form of discrimination or bias. The HR Manager’s actions in this video not only violate the basic principles of fairness and equality but also demonstrate a lack of understanding and sensitivity towards the LGBTQ+ community. Using gender-neutral pronouns is a legitimate choice that should be respected and accommodated in the workplace.

Employers have a responsibility to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all employees, regardless of their gender identity or expression. This includes providing support and resources for employees who use gender-neutral pronouns or who identify as transgender or non-binary.

It was not a big deal, the HR has made a lot of assumptions.

The actions of the HR Manager in this video are unacceptable and demonstrate a clear example of discrimination and bias. Employers must prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion in their hiring practices and ensure that all applicants are evaluated fairly and objectively based on their skills, qualifications, and experience. Discrimination in any form is not acceptable and we must all work together to create a more inclusive and welcoming workplace for everyone. What do you think?
