Humans do not deserve the companionship of dogs.

Millions of people around the world suffer from mental health issues, which have an impact on their daily lives and well-being. To deal with these challenges, it is critical to prioritise self-care and seek help when necessary. Seeking professional help and implementing coping strategies can significantly improve mental health outcomes. However, this is not always possible until it is too late and the last remaining thread completely breaks. So, during difficult times, many people turn to their furry companions for comfort and support, as they provide unconditional love and companionship.

Pets can help their owners navigate and cope with mental health challenges. I’m sure we’re all aware that pets can be extremely beneficial in terms of mental health. Who can resist smiling when your dog runs up to you with those adorable eyes? However, just because a pet would benefit you does not always imply that the pet would be in a stable environment when it comes to you. Sometimes it is necessary to think of the animal rather than just your problems. Don’t pets deserve a stable and loving home? That is the central premise of the following story.

So scroll down and take a look for yourself.

Rehoming someone’s dog without their permission sounds like an extremely a**holish thing to do.

OP’s friend named ‘Carl’ needed to visit his family, so he asked OP to take care of his doggo named ‘Max’ for two weeks.

Max was a bit skittish at first, as OP’s cat wasn’t too happy with the situation, but time was going by nonetheless.

However, when the two weeks were up, Carl was a no-show and wasn’t responding to any calls either.

OP was trying his best to reach out to Carl, but nothing was working, and he needed to get back to work at this point.

After six weeks, OP went back to work, but the doggo wasn’t too happy with that and would bark all day, which led to noise complaints from the neighbours and the landlord.

The OP’s cat was also miserable at this point and continued to bully Max.

OP even contacted Carl’s mom, but when he didn’t get a response, he gave Max away to a caring person he knew after 8 weeks.

OP thought she would be the perfect fit for Max as she had lost her own dog a year before, so he left a final message for Carl telling him this.

A while ago, Carl finally showed up at OP’s door and explained his situation.

Apparently, Carl had a serious mental health episode and couldn’t contact him. He was furious to learn that OP had given Max away.

OP isn’t sure whether he did the right thing and whether he should give Max back to Carl.

So the OP ended up on Reddit, asking for an opinion on what he should do.

Honestly, I feel sorry for everyone in this story. I first feel for the OP, who had no choice but to give away the dog because they couldn’t stay at home every day, especially since they had to return to work. I also feel bad for the original pet owner because the mental break wasn’t their fault. I also feel bad for the doggo who had to move.

However, at the end of the day, I believe this was the best solution. As shown in this story, OP’s friend is far too aggressive, so I don’t think it’s a good idea to return the dog to him just yet.

People in the comments felt bad for everyone in the story as well.

While it wasn’t in his control, he did abandon the dog.

I, for one, am glad that the doggo isn’t in a shelter and instead found a loving home.

What was OP supposed to do at that point anyway?

Carl was expecting a lot from OP.

I do think involving the cops might be the safest solution.
