We seek perfection in this world, but it doesn’t exist, right?
Human brains have a tendency to want everything to be “just right.” When it doesn’t go as planned, it starts irritating us. It works the same way with our eyes, there are some things that we find aesthetically pleasing. These aesthetically pleasing sights are usually in symmetry. When they aren’t in symmetry, they tend to tick us off a little. I’m not the kind of person to say “Oh, I’m so OCD” because the actual mental illness is not a joke, but boy does it bother me when things are out of order or just “not right.”
American scientist Alan Lightman explains that the human brain likes to see things that are symmetrical. “The reason must be partly psychological,” he says. “Symmetry represents order, and we crave order in this strange universe.” It is a weird thing, craving order and symmetry, but it is what it is. And when we don’t get it, we get really frustrated. So today, we are here to frustrate the heck out of you and make you cringe with really uncomfortable pictures.
