UPS Drivers Share Wholesome Pictures Of The Dogs They Meet In Their Daily Routes

Among the things that brought us joy during this global pandemic, couriers are on top of the list, but for those with a pet… it’s definitely their lovely cats and more importantly dogos! Getting back home to see your dog not only makes you happy but it makes the bond between you and your dog grow stronger. Of course one of the major reason for you being closer to your lovely mate is the fact that you’re not just stuck home, you’re with someone who cherishes being close to you and as humans, that’s our basic need.

There’s a group on Facebook called UPS Dogs with over 1.8 million followers, and guess what? It’s full of photos…Dog photos! This group was founded by a UPS driver Sean McCarren, seven years ago. Initially, it was a tribute to our lovely furry friends but now it has gained a ton of attention where everyone loves sharing the dogs they meet on their routes!

Let’s take a sneak peek at the popular UPS Dogs project, which brings together the most impressive photos of the couriers and four-legged friends they meet along the way because they smell the chewy delivery.

So, we decided to reach Dam McMackin from the PR team of UPS to ask some questions to know if he is aware of the popular UPS Dogs project. He was delighted to answer our questions.

“We are certainly aware of our drivers’ strong relationships with our customers and so many of our customers’ pets,” Dan said. “We bring people and businesses the things they need to live their lives and run their businesses. And some of those things include needed items for our customers’ pets.”

Dan was asked whether or not UPS is involved with the UPS Dog Project to which he replied that those at UPS “are not directly involved with the project you mention.” However, we are aware of it and know how much our drivers’ relationships with people and pets matter,” he deduced.

This is our dog Bear. He’s 13 years old. We got him 11 years ago as a rescue. He was living with a homeless man in Chicago, Illinois who had to surrender Bear to allow the owner to go to a men’s shelter. He wanted him to go to a family with young kids. Bear was so used to eating fish out of the lake, it took us 6 months to get him used to eating dog food.

Sean McCarren, who founded the UPS Dog group in 2013 was asked in an interview about the start of this crazy journey to which he said to HuffPost, “When you’re running into dogs all the time, it creates a bond when you see them every day. It’s cool to meet some of the same dogs on the route because they know who you are and they are excited to see you.”

Initially, he started collecting pictures on his journey to different homes and when his collection grew to more than 60 pictures, he started posting them online. Even though it started as a personal thing in the beginning, the group slowly gained more and more members and now it has gained more than 1.8 million members, “everybody got all excited about it, so I just went ahead and made a little Facebook page to share them all.”

When Sean established the pages on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, other UPS drivers also started posting. These included pictures of dogs that they would see on their way to deliveries. In 2017 a frenzy began, the pages had been going smooth for plenty of years but all of a sudden it all went crazy, Sean commented for USA Today. “I just thought that it was a cool idea. I didn’t think that it was going to hit as hard as it did.” UPS is happy that all those posts are showing a lively side of the delivery service job even though the page is not actually associated with UPS on official terms. “There are no negatives, there’s no politics, it’s just feel-good photos that are fun to see pop up on your feed.”

Kim Krebs of UPS commented on UPS Dogs: “We have several dog-loving drivers with personal social media accounts dedicated to celebrating the pets they meet. These are great examples of the strong relationships UPS guys build with their customers, both two- and four-legged, although these pages aren’t officially affiliated with UPS.”

This old guy comes to work every day with his owner and has a bed in the tasting room of the winery. He is a happy and well cared for dog.
But when he hears my truck he runs to the door to be let out and then he runs up to my truck and starts shivering and whining and giving me the sad eyes like a Humane Society commercial on TV. All that is missing is Sarah McLachlan singing in the background. Such a phony!

At the end of the day, the only thing comforting you is being around those who love you. Pet owners don’t have to spend their days alone because they know they have someone to look forward to when they get back home. As far as UPS drivers are concerned, who said dogs and delivery drivers don’t get along? UPS Dogs is a growing group of thousands of delivery drivers and customers who break stereotypes and prove that it’s not just humans who are happy when UPS delivers. They hope to become a bigger family of happier members and even happier rides!
