Woman Misses Weekly Family BBQs Because Her Active Dogs Are Not Allowed

Dogs BBQ

Adopting a dog is like adopting a baby, you have to groom it right from the beginning to make it a well-behaved living being who knows how to operate when its owner is not around or when it is outside or at someone else’s place. Dog training is an essential part every pet dog and its owner must go through to keep everyone safe, happy, and healthy…including the dog. But if you do not train your dog, then it may turn aggressive and you may have to face its wrath.

Reddit user u/wansonadon6894 has 3 dogs who are all aggressive and not trained well. Every time she leaves them home by themselves, they destroy the whole house. Her mother wants her to come over to her house so they can enjoy weekly BBQs and spend quality time together. But the mom also know about the dogs’ aggression so she asked OP to come alone and leave the dogs at home. She refused the offer and said she would only come if her dogs are also allowed to come.

The story was shared by OP on the subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?” to know if refusing was the right thing to do or not. Scroll down below to read how it all went down!

1. It always becomes a sensitive issue when it comes to pets. Let’s see how this one goes.

2. OP has 3 dogs who, honestly speaking, don’t seem to be very well trained…as of yet.

3. OP doesn’t take the dogs outside when she goes and because crating is not an option that works, she hires someone to watch the dogs.

4. Dogs love a big yard, it’s like heaven to them.

5. OP’s mom wants her daughter to visit her place frequently so they could enjoy BBQs together.

6. It really doesn’t seem feasible…these dogs need some learning.

7. The mother suggested OP leave her dogs at home or make her husband attend to them and come alone for the BBQs. OP did not like that idea.

8. OP told them if she comes, she comes with her family which includes the dogs…or else no one comes.

9. OP shared it’s the life she chose so she is comfortable living it. She thinks she is NTA but still asked the AITA community members for their votes.

YTA. OP should understand it is her fault that her dogs are so aggressive, it is due to lack of training that they destroy her house when they are left alone in it. And her mother’s point was very valid. If she did bring her dogs along to the BBQ, the dogs would make a mess in her house as well. She has to know the dogs require training. And she is the one who has to do it, no one else.

Here’s what the AiTA community members had to say about this:

10. You really have to deal with your dogs, OP. You cannot keep hiring dog sitters, or refuse to go anywhere.

11. This is solid advice. The dogs need training and if OP cannot do that, then she must rehome them.

12. Maybe she adopted too many in too little time. She should’ve fully trained the first one and then moved on to the second one.

13. OP bit more than she could chew.

OP shared a few edits to explain her side a bit more:

14. OP said she only asked the community if she was an AH for not attending the BBQs. It still is the same thing that connects directly to the dogs not being trained.

15. Maybe she could hire professionals.

16. OP said she would be fine if her family would come over with their dog to her place.

17. OP shares the BBQs would be held on a weekly basis and her dogs need more time to train for her to attend them.

18. She simply refuses to go to her mother’s house because her dogs are not allowed there.

But no, the viewpoint of the AITA community did not change:

19. It really was a bad decision, if you ask me. If the process of training those dogs is exhausting her, then either she is not doing it right, or she shouldn’t have gotten the dogs in the first place.

20. Your dogs, your problem. Do not shift the blame on anyone else.

21. The edit did not work at all and OP still got declared an AH for being a bad dog mom.
