A lot of people look forward to Thanksgiving not only for the food, the vacation, and all the fun but also for the chance to be with their families again. For some people, it’s the only time or holiday they get to be with their families. Unfortunately, it isn’t always so simple for everyone. There are some people who can’t just go home and be welcomed with open arms. Sadly, for some of these people, their families’ demands make going home a little complicated when it shouldn’t be. And that’s just the case for Redditor Fine_Adhesiveness167.
By accepting their invitation to Thanksgiving dinner, she was hoping to at least make her family happy. However, just when she thought she wouldn’t run into any problems, her family asked her to do something she wasn’t able to. For the sake of her sister, she decided to leave her PTSD assistance dog at home. The truth is that OP genuinely need her PTSD service dog due to the emotional abuse she endured at the hands of her family. It’s unfortunate that her parents don’t seem to get this and believe she can just leave the dog behind because it doesn’t help with a physical disability. Here is the complete background behind all of this drama.
1. The bottom line of the story
2. In order for the family to be together, OP’s parents want her to leave the dog behind.
3. However, in order to get through the appointment, OP will need her PTSD assistance dog.
4. Her father believes that despite all of the explanations provided by the OP, she should “suck it up” for one night.
It’s annoying enough for parents to not realize what they’ve done—or haven’t done—for their kids as they grow up, but it’s even more annoying when they ignore the problems their kids are having, as in the instance of OP. It appears like the OP’s parents won’t even acknowledge the fact that she was given the PTSD service dog for a purpose. They mistakenly believe it to be a simple pet that they can leave behind at home whenever they choose, but this is untrue. Many people are telling OP that she is not at fault in this circumstance while yet expressing their frustration with it. Here are the most popular remarks. Scroll down till the end to see it all.
5. Perhaps the best course of action for the OP would be to cut off all communication with the family.
6. Everything would be perfect if they just agreed with the OP’s proposal.
7. The parents might finally give in this time.
8. The OP should celebrate Thanksgiving with those she is truly grateful for.
9. Being alone for Thanksgiving sounds like a lot better option than returning to the circumstance that gave her PTSD.
10. It’s cruel to urge OP to just put up with it for a day given her family is the main reason she needs the dog,
11. OP’s dad is actually anti-scientific with the way he’s acting.
12. True that
13. They ought to have continued pursuing their goals and ignored the requirements of the OP if they didn’t want to cause a scene.

15. Dad should be understanding
16. This is such an emotional turmoil
17. It’s really lack of respect
18. I think the same
19. Same
20. 100% NTA
Since it’s obvious that her parents don’t understand what she’s going through, it might be best for the OP to find another method to celebrate Thanksgiving than returning to the scene of her trauma, as most of these people have suggested. Fortunately, the OP did mention in an update that a neighbor had asked her to their Thanksgiving after learning about her predicament. Hopefully, though, her family would respect her requirements if they ever wish to spend Thanksgiving or any other holiday with her. And they ought to take responsibility for their role in it and try to make apologies. How do you feel about this story? Stau tuned for more.
