When will people learn to listen?
I hate those people who are politely asked not to do one thing and they just entirely ignore what you just said. I mean the activity could potentially get them injured but they want to do it even more now that they got asked not to do it. This sort of human behavior is highly unwelcome and I cannot even count the number of people I have met who make it a matter of their ego if they get asked not to do something. And there are people who don’t ask. They proceed with something they should probably take permission before but they don’t because they think “oh, how bad could it be?”. In the story, I am about to tell you, things could’ve gone nasty just for this reason.
The story was posted before the sacred community of Am I The A**hole. A woman was at a bookstore with her service dog. She had problems with anxiety and was disabled so she required a service dog. That day, particularly she was feeling a bit anxious since early morning so she needed her service dog more than ever. And we all know a service dog is highly committed to the task at hand and must not be distracted. But this one mother and her two kids didn’t understand this or maybe didn’t want to understand this. The kids wanted to pet the service dog and their mother told them to go ahead. The lady started getting anxious as the kids got near the dog and started screaming at the kids for not touching her service dog. This made the mother super angry who started cursing the woman and even made comments about her disability.
She asked over 4 million members of AITA to tell her if she did the wrong thing by shouting at the kids to not let them pet her service dog.

1. This woman wondered if she did the right thing that day or not.

2. OP has PTSD and helps deal with the issues related to it, she has a service dog.
I like how people understand the meaning of no and don’t pet her service dog when she tells them not to. But, does everyone understand the concept of “No”?

3. OP went to a bookstore where she spotted a couple of kids who wanted to pat her service dog who was on duty. Their mother agreed.

4. OP tried to politely tell them not the pat Atom but they wouldn’t listen. That’s when she started getting anxious and decided to move to another aisle.

5. OP had an anxiety attack and started screaming at the kids. In response, their mother started yelling at OP and didn’t try to understand a single word.

6. The mother and her kids were asked to leave as OP was not feeling good in their company. The mom kept cursing OP under her breath and even the customers in the bookstore told her she was wrong for not letting the kids pat Atom.
Via Reddit
7. It was clear to everyone that Atom was a service dog and so that mother must’ve had some idea how to behave with or be around them.

I fail to understand how hard it was for that woman to just listen. In fact, this didn’t have to get to OP telling the kids to stop, Atom was wearing a jacket which clearly indicated he was a service dog and it should’ve been clear there and then that a service dog no duty should not be distracted no matter how good your sob story is about not being allowed to have pets at home. I would declare the woman NTA for not letting the kids pat her service dog. People with PTSD are NOT supposed to have an anxiety attack and the stupidity of this mother led to that. So I would like to declare that mother a major AH in this event.
Here’s whose favor the AITA community voted in and why:
8. Looks like their dictionary didn’t contain the word “No”.
Via Reddit
9. How hard is it actually to listen to someone?
Via Reddit
10. Imagine if Atom had attacked the kids for making her owner have a panic attack. That would’ve made a mess. The mother should feel lucky Atom didn’t react irrationally.

11. This needs to be a compulsory course in every school. Especially in the ones such kids study at.
Via Reddit
12. That is exactly how every pet owner should result to this question.
Via Reddit
13. Just shows how the mother didn’t care much about her kids. She put them in danger by letting them pat Atom.
Via Reddit
14. Don’t come at me for this but I lowkey wanted the dog to at least give them a proper scare. That would’ve taught them the significance of “No”.
Via Reddit
15. Straight-up dumb, that entitled mother was.
