Boss Says “No Overtime,”Gets Shocked When Worker Doesn’t Do Overtime

If you make a demand and anticipate that others will abide by it, don’t be shocked if they do. That’s the lesson from this tale, which Redditor u/Local admin user, an unhappy employee, posted to the r/MaliciousCompliance forum. They published their experience on the well-known subreddit in order to reveal their boss’ inconsistent rules that both forbade and required overtime work from the employees.

Too many managers establish standards for working relationships that only operate when they are in the best interests of the firm and not the individual. They will firmly follow the “rules” until it is convenient for them to abruptly disregard them.

Such companies literally act so selfishly in order to get their work completed. Neglecting the overtime and the efforts of the employees that are being used. My friends this is what malicious compliance is. OP had to go through malicious compliance as the company was not ready to pay them for overtime.

But as soon as the ransomware incident happened OP was told to go on the site and help them fix it. OP spent about 30 minutes driving to the site, and his official job timing was finished. He decided to call the boss and said he is clocking off as it’s Friday today, so can you send someone else here? As soon as the boss heard it from OP’s end they quickly organized overtime payments for the remaining  23 weeks the project had to run.
