Boss Sends Out Crazy Email To Employees About Donating Their PTO To One Employee

Crazy Boss

Companies frequently take advantage of their employees.

While it is effortless for businesses to talk about how they are a large family, their tune abruptly changes when one of the family members becomes ill and must take a longer leave. Companies frequently prioritise their bottom line over their employees’ well-being, resulting in unequal treatment and exploitation in the workplace. Furthermore, employees frequently feel undervalued and overworked due to long hours and low pay, as well as a lack of benefits and job security. This issue highlights the power dynamics and systemic inequalities that exist in many corporate environments.

The following story is not any different. I’d even go so far as to say that the company’s email to all employees demonstrates how they failed to recognise how tone-deaf it is. I understand that some family-owned businesses do not earn enough to provide their employees with long-paid vacations, but this is clearly not the case in this situation. The company sent an email asking all employees to ‘donate’ their paid time off to one employee so they could get better. I’m not sure why they had to ask other employees to do this or why they couldn’t simply extend the individual’s time off.

OP’s friend was the one who got the email asking him to donate his paid time off to another employee.

The employee in question is sick and needs time to heal properly, so the company sent this email to everyone in the company.

It is apparently not a new thing, and they already have a specific donation form for people, so people can give away their paid time off to their co-workers.

Dear Team,

Currently, we have a long-term employee, 28 years dedicated, who has recently had a medical issue that has caused her to miss many weeks of work.

From time to time, we will hold a PTO donation campaign when we have a team member who needs some assistance. HR is asking you to consider donating some PTO time to our team member to make her recovery less stressful and hopefully allow her to focus on her ability to return to work soon. Thank you for your consideration! If you would like to donate, please return the attached PTO donation form to HR.

Simply put, this email lacks the appropriate tone. Is it actually that difficult for them to extend their leave? Why do other employees have to ‘donate’ their time off? And from the looks of it, this isn’t the first time the company has asked this, and it appears that they do so frequently. Does this make sense to anyone else? It doesn’t make sense to me. I can only hope that the company realises how dumb they are, but I doubt it.

It would show a lot of goodwill if they did it for their employee.

Imagine not guilting your employees to do this.

They talk about her like they care so much, but they clearly don’t.

The higher-ups are never going to join in on this.

I doubt it, even if they had worked for 50 years.

I am not at all surprised that this is an American company.

It is the first time, I’ve seen something like this.

This is beneath the CEO, ofcourse.

Apparently, this happens a lot more than I thought.
