Girlfriend Goes Off At Boyfriend For Not Cleaning His Cat’s Litter Box

Pets are a huge responsibility.

People often get adopt a pet animal out of love and wish. They often don’t realize how big of a responsibility they are about to take on and at times they fail to honor it. If you don’t have any plans to be responsible after being a pet owner, you may never be able to form that inseparable bond of love with your animal, and they don’t realize how damaging it can be to the pet’s health if you don’t treat it the way it is supposed to be treated. So I always suggest to animal lovers that if you are not yet ready to take on and honor the massive responsibilities that come with adopting a pet, just don’t adopt yet. Wait till you are ready because it will be totally worth it at that time.

If I was to mention an animal that doesn’t require as much care as the others, it’s a cat. Cats are very independent and they know how to live life better than humans, so in that department, things are a bit easy. In the case of cats, one major responsibility, though, is to frequently clean their litter boxes because they love peeing and pooping. The process can take a lot of the owner’s time and it makes sense to invest that time in cleaning your cat’s litter box because no one likes to do its business in already done business, the house looks cleaner, and the cat feels happy to sit in a clean litter.

However, there are many people who rarely clean their cat’s litter box like this one guy who you are going to read today’s story about. Reddit user u/m0dernsloth shared she has a boyfriend who does not clean the cat litter box at his house. So much so that one time OP saw mold developing in the litter box. After seeing this, she went off on her boyfriend about being careless. I mean, that is just so unhygienic.

You can scroll down below to read the story about how it all went down.

1. Girlfriend once went away for a week leaving her cats behind with her boyfriend and upon returning she found out he hadn’t cleaned the litter boxes.

2. Now that OP has moved out, the boyfriend got two cats of his own and he would only clean the litter boxes unless they are disgustingly full. OP questions how is it possible for him to live in all that terrible smell.

3. Realizing her boyfriend wasn’t going to be responsible, OP would clean the litter boxes every time she would be at his house because the smell made her go crazy. And one day, when he asked her to stop doing it, they erupted into a fight.

4. He told her to never clean the litter boxes at his house again. She agreed only to realize on her most recent visit that mold had developed in them and he hadn’t done anything about it.

I feel like puking a bit after this story. Molds can be so terrible both for that guy and those cats that use the litter. Especially the cats who have probably come in contact with that mold already and I wouldn’t be surprised if this cat owner’s stupidity resulted in his cats getting terribly sick. Such a dumb person to not clean the litter box. The story also made me question this boyfriend’s ability to smell. I cannot even imagine how terrible his house would smell.

OP was NTA for going off at her boyfriend for being so irresponsible and dirty. She did well by moving out.
