Daughter Who Works Night Shifts Yells At Parents For Waking Her Up Too Early

parents wake their daughter up

Working night shifts is not easy at all. It disrupts your entire schedule when you compare it to those you are living with. Your parents, and your siblings all wake up at 8 a.m. and have breakfast together while you just get home from work at that time. The time slot that is for you to sleep is the one for the others to work. And you find it really hard to interact with your family and friends because it is tough to find a time slot in which both parties are free. But, in no way you must ever ruin it for someone who is working a night shift. They are already too stressed working in that depressing time slot, so you must respect their routine and should allow them to adjust accordingly.

Unfortunately, Reddit user Better Arachnid’s parents did not want her to adjust to her night shift routine. OP reaches home from work early in the morning at 7:30 a.m. and sleeps till 3 p.m. before waking up and getting ready to go to work again. However, her parents don’t like that she sleeps all morning and keep waking her up just after she gets 4 hours of sleep. For them, 4 hours of sleep is enough but to function well all night, OP needs more sleep. They keep waking her up because they want to spend time with her. When it keeps on happening, even after OP put a lock on her door which got picked up by her father, she lost it and started yelling at her parents.

Not knowing if what happened was right or wrong, the matter was taken to the courts of the infamous subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?” where OP rested her fate at the hands of the AITA community members.

2. But OP’s parents would always try to wake her up early, and they would go to all extremes to do so.

3. The parents only want to spend time with their daughter but OP argued they do have an entire afternoon to spend together if they let her sleep till 3 p.m.

4. You pick the lock and then also yell? I don’t think that is the right direction to take, Dad.

Here’s what the AITA community members had to say:

5. Give them a taste of their own medicine but in your own time zone.

NTA. You are not working those night shifts, mom and dad. I wonder if the dad goes to work or not. If he does, well then why does he sleep all night? That is because he requires all that 7-8 hours of sleep to regain his energy in order to function at his fullest the next day at work, or even in general. The same is the case with OP. She has to get all that sleep in to have enough energy to work the next night. Everyone is in the exact same both, just in different time zones.

If this keeps happening, I would suggest OP leave the house and find herself a new place to live.
