“I am presently on my 52nd foster, and I can genuinely say that I’ve never had anyone as jovial as him,”Velazquez says. “He looks at me in a way that no other animal or human has ever looked at me, including my own pets. Essentially, the only time he is not smiling is when he is asleep or eating.”

We all animal lovers would want each and every living organism on this planet to never suffer, be always happy. No would be able to see the real condition of Sanford before he was rescued, no one would want to see such an innocent and beautiful creature suffering like that. I believe no one has the heart to see that injured Sanford after seeing his charming face and attractive grin. Unfortunately, Sanford was not this happy and joyous before. It is really saddening to even think that his charming smile was not always there. In fact, he was extremely depressed and weak. He was in very bad shape, he desperately needed proper care and shelter. Most importantly he needed love and help. Karen found out that before animal control rescued him in April, he was hit by a car which made it very difficult for him to move his legs. He was unable to walk due to that for a while. Shockingly, a bullet wound was also found in his right hind leg by his rescuers. Although Sanford was taken to a small animal shelter in Dallas, Texas but unfortunately, for some unknown reason he received no medical care in his one week’s stay at that shelter. Luckily for Sanford, another local rescue group saw Sanford at the shelter and after just one glace, the volunteer knew she had to help this dog. A huge change occurred in Sanford’s life as soon as he was placed into foster care with Velazquez. Keep on scrolling down to read what happened next…

“He was physically broken… and when the volunteer went to see him, he didn’t really make any effort to come and say hello,” Kerry Anechiarico, executive director of Dallas DogRRR said. “It’s almost like he had given up, and he was just waiting for his time to come.”

4. Oh, you gorgeous little fur baby.

“He came to my home on May 1, just a few days after he was released from the hospital,” Velazquez said. “He has been all smiles ever since. I think the minute he came to my home, he realized he was in a safe place.”

5. Sanford probably has no idea that he is such a cutie!

“He’s pretty much a normal dog for a senior of 10 years. He’s like the older gentleman that you see in a nursing home. He may be 95 years old, but he acts like he’s in his 50s.” Says Karen.

6. Meet the real Sanford, the happy Sanford. He spends most of his day going on walks, eating healthy home-cooked meals and playing with Karen’s other dogs. Now the only goal is that to find him his forever home.

“He’ll be a great family dog. He’ll get along with other dogs and all humans. He even does well with kids. He’s the perfect companion dog that you can come home to. He’ll wag his tail and greet you, and he’ll just keep you company for the rest of the day. He’s just a happy-go-lucky dog now.”
