Employee Gets The Responsibility Of Her Coworker’s Kids Dumped On Her, Gets Reported When She Fails

Children are the responsibility of parents.

As a parent, you must recognise that you bear sole responsibility for your children’s well-being. Prioritising your children’s well-being and making arrangements for their care when necessary is critical, rather than relying on others to carry out your parental responsibilities. Remember that being a parent is a full-time commitment that necessitates dedication and accountability. Furthermore, relying on coworkers to babysit your children can cause workplace tension and is not a long-term childcare solution. Make arrangements for proper childcare outside of work hours to ensure your children’s well-being.

I understand that caring for children can be difficult, which is why so many people hire babysitters, but this does not mean you can turn your coworker into a free babysitter. I also understand that coworkers can become great friends and help each other out in times of need, but what if only one person is constantly asking for favours? To maintain a healthy working relationship with your coworkers, you must set boundaries and respect the professional environment.

It is not an employee’s responsibility to watch their co-worker’s kids.

OP works in a food service establishment, where she hands food to the customers at the front counter.

The co-worker that she works with has two children, and she can’t find a babysitter.

That is why the coworker usually brings her children to work, which means the kids are always wreaking havoc.

Not only that, but the coworker also has the habit of using her phone at work, which means neglecting her children.

During this ‘break’, she usually asks the OP to look after her children, and that is exactly what happened this time as well.

OP was taking an order when she heard a loud thump and realised that the kid had fallen once again to the ground.

Thankfully, the kid was okay, and the OP took the order while holding the kid, and that is when her coworker walked in.

The family who were watching this whole ordeal chimed in and said that his co-worker needed to take care of her own children.

This obviously angered the co-worker, especially when OP agreed with this sentiment, and now even their boss is not on OP’s side.

I’m actually quite surprised by how it went. I assumed that once the boss realised what was going on, he would support the OP. However, this is not what happened, and he now claims that OP should be more empathetic.

This makes me wonder if the boss is related to the co-worker because nobody would behave like this in a professional setting. Teamwork is fine, but this is simply a coworker using OP for personal gain. I believe the OP is completely correct, and she should look for another job as soon as possible.

I am surprised that the employer is on the co-worker’s side.

OP needs to find a new job as soon as possible.

Bringing in HR might be a good idea before she leaves.

This sounds very extreme, but the co-worker and the boss deserve this treatment.

I am not sure about the danger, but it doesn’t sound safe either.

It is not OP’s job to take care of the kids.

That was, sadly, also my first thought, but I don’t want to make assumptions.

OP was being way too generous, and it seems the coworkers kept taking advantage of that generosity.

What kind of employer is this?

Something seriously fishy is going on here.

What are your thoughts about this story? Do you think the OP overemphasised the issue? Do you think she was justified in standing up to her coworker? What would you have done in this scenario?
