Shop Owner Refuses To Tell Customer About His Employees Working Hours, Gets Applauded

aita-post-

In this story, OP is a 32-year-old man who operates a small shop and employs a 25-year-old woman. The two of them work together for the entire 10-hour shift, and OP has established a base of regular customers who are familiar with both of them due to their presence in the shop. A few days ago, a lady in her upper 50s, whom OP has seen only once or twice before, visited the shop. Despite the fact that OP’s employee has never worked on the specific day of her visit and has maintained a consistent schedule since being hired in October, the customer expressed disappointment that the employee was not present.

The customer then proceeded to inquire about the employee’s work schedule, asking OP for the days and hours she worked. In response, OP respectfully declined to provide this information. The customer reacted strongly to OP’s refusal, expressing her displeasure and asserting that OP’s response was unprofessional. She told him about her past experience working at a large company, where withholding such information from a customer would have led to consequences, possibly including termination.

However, OP held his ground, believing that sharing your employee’s schedule with a person who is essentially a stranger raises safety concerns. And now he wants to know if he’s an A-hole for not disclosing the employee’s work schedule.

1. OP runs a small shop and has only one employee a 25-year-old female, They have quite a few customers who are actually regulars and they know them through the shop.
