One Reddit user faced a tough dilemma when asked to give away her new puppy to her brother-in-law. The twist? The brother-in-law, born with panhypopituitarism, needs a service dog for college, and the puppy has already passed the necessary tests. Despite the apparent suitability, OP’s husband pushes for giving away the pup, while she opposes the idea.

2. OP and her husband recently got a puppy, Scout. Before this OP had a service dog, Toby, before her marriage.
3. The couple decided to get the second dog as a friend for the first. They wanted to teach the service dog to learn how to share before the two could plan to have babies.
4. OP and her husband both loved Scout to bits.
5. This is where the drama begins. OP has a brother-in-law with a medical condition for which his parents have been looking for a service dog to take him to college. OP’s MIL hinted towards taking Scout in.
6. OP agreed not giving the comment much thought because there wasn’t much thought to be given to it anyway.
7. OP’s husband liked this idea as well and started pushing her to give Scout away to BIL as his service dog.

There is a whole thought that went into Scout’s adoption. There was a full-fledged reasoning behind it, to give Toby a friend, to make Toby learn how to share with his owners because the couple decided to finally have kids. That is why Scout was adopted. And by giving him away, none of this would happen. Their plan to have kids could potentially get delayed.
There are so many support dogs out there with passed tests, you just have to adopt them. I don’t think we have a shortage of dogs on this planet as of yet. Also, the MIL wanted this to happen so eagerly makes me suspicious about her.
