Guy Maliciously Complied With Complex That Didn’t Remove Parking Charge From His Bill Even Though He Had Sold His Car

Car parking charge

Policies, rules, and regulations. Sometimes when businesses set them they tend to be very rigid about them. They want compliance of the highest order and won’t ever make these policies and regulations flexible for anyone. This is not a good thing actually because in order to sustain a healthy business, you have to be flexible. You have to amend your policies according to the dynamicity of the changes happening around you. Sometimes even to facilitate a good customer you have to ignore the rulebook. But if you chose to stick to the rules right to the last dot, problems may occur.

In today’s story, Reddit user  u/eGrant03 leased a complex and also paid a charge for a parking space that he got to park his car. About three months later he sold his car and asked the management to remove the parking space charge from his bill from next month onwards. But they kept sending him the parking charge despite him not using the parking space.

OP knew politeness won’t work so he found a loophole in their parking space policy and maliciously complied to the rigidness of it to teach the complex a solid lesson they would always remember. Now what did OP find in the policy and how did he implement it is for you guys to read.

1. I’ll just use it then…in the most malicious way.

2. When OP started his independent chapter of life he moved into a complex and also paid a parking space charge every month to park his car within the complex.

3. It’s okay, OP. We all start from the ground.

4. About 3 months into his lease, OP’s car gave up and he developed other ways to commute and gather all his monthly supplies…basically a new action plan to live life without a car.

5. OP got rid of his car and informed the complex management that he does not need a parking space anymore so remove that extra charge from his bill.

6. The manager told him she would look into it but she hadn’t. The next bill came in and it had the parking space charge.

7. OP paid his bill except for the parking space charge and went to the office again. The lady still had not anything conclusive about his case and demanded more time.

8. She told OP things will get sorted the next month and three days before the payment date, he finally got a call from the manager.

9. OP would have to break his lease and sign a new one if he wanted the parking charge removed. The new lease would be signed on the new, much higher, rent rate. OP decided to keep the space.

Man, these people are so terrible. OP literally has no other option but to keep paying the extra $25 every month even though he is not using that space. I think they are lying about the whole lease having to be broken and the requirement of a new one being signed at a new rate in order to remove the charge. Businesses only want to make good money. This one doesn’t care about its customers, it only cares about the profit.

I can assure you all that this behavior of theirs with their customers will not allow them to survive for long as a business.

10. A couple of weeks later, OP discovered some key policy statements about the parking space that allowed the residents to do some things with their spaces.

11. So a solid plan came into OP’s mind to maliciously comply with that policy regarding the parking space.

12. He turned his spot into a storage unit and offered it to a nervous for half the price of the storage units they have to pay for that they get from the complex.

13. The complex made multiple attempts but could do nothing to have that storage unit removed from the parking spot.

Via u/eGrant03

14. Oh, how can they remove the charge from OP’s bill now without breaking the lease? Obviously, OP declined.

15. After 1.5 years of staying at the complex OP finally left. He sold the trailer to his neighbor. And the best part is other neighbors followed and started bringing their own storage units in the form of trailers parked in parking spaces.

16. The complex changed its policy about trailers but couldn’t shake those who were already in a contract.

17. The complex had been sold to new owners but the storage units were still there.
