In this scenario, a family vacation to Disney World became marred by conflicts and misunderstandings within an extended family. One individual, who travels frequently for work and has accumulated a significant amount of hotel and airline points, decided to treat their immediate family to a Disney World vacation. This generous offer included covering the cost of flights, hotel accommodations, and park tickets for everyone.
The trouble began when one family member, the sister-in-law, learned that her family’s accommodations would be at Disney Springs rather than one of the upscale resorts on Disney property. Even though the hotel chosen was still of high quality, the sister-in-law perceived this as a difference in treatment and accused OP of being “cheap” for not booking the same luxury resort.
Sister-in-law framed the situation as their children feeling excluded and envious of their cousins’ potentially more luxurious experience at the resort. Unfortunately, this dispute became more complicated when the children overheard their parents arguing about the trip. They even called OP an A-hole for taking something away from their children.
1. OP is taking his family to Disney World this summer and they will be staying at resorts on the property, OP’s sister-in-law and her family had a rough time during the pandemic so he decided to do something nice, and invited them along.
2. OP said that he would be paying for flights, hotels, and even park tickets. Everything was fine until SIL talked to OP’s wife and said she was upset because OP and her wife were staying at Disney Springs and they had to stay at a resort.
3. They thought that OP was making their kids jealous by not letting them enjoy the same stuff as us, which is quite weird because he didn’t want to make them jealous.
4. OP talked to them clearly that if they wanna accept the choice of his gift then they are welcome otherwise, OP would cancel their reservation.
5. Now OP wants to know if he’s an a-hole for not giving her sister-in-law and her family a luxury vacation
6. This user suggested that OP should just take the kids and leave those entitled parents
7. They were highly entitled, I mean OP wanted to do something good for them whereas they were entitled.

12. It was incredibly generous of OP to even consider taking them on the trip in the first place but they are rude rather than being grateful

14. Just imagine what would have happened if they had gone together I assume OP would have been listening to their complaints all the time
