Let’s go and have a glimpse of Otis & Clementine’s Books and Coffee where all your kitten dreams will come true! Without any further distractions, let’s show you what we truly mean by kitty heaven!
1. Just look at those eyes staring at you!
2. What a peaceful little critter
Just look at how comfy this baby is!
3. Clearly at home here!
Ellen Helmke, the owner of this lovely bookstore said they have many adorable kittens and “usually a mama cat as well” at all times. The kittens that are kept at the bookstore are given by the South Paw Conservation Nova Scotia rescue group. What a lovely cause!
4. Is this what heaven looks like?
Imagine being surrounded by all these furballs
5. Come to mama!
6. Perfect sized chair for this kitty
If you are ever in the area, you must visit the bookstore as it is truly one of a kind! You can pick up your favorite kitten from the entire bunch and give it a loving new home! According to Helmke, you’ll have to hurry though, because “All the kittens are in and out fairly quickly, as they are adopted.”
It’ll cost you 255 Canadian dollars (194 US dollars) to adopt a cat from here as the South Paw Conservation will handle everything that the kitty will need like food and medical expenses. If you’re looking to become a cat-parent, you’ll have to do your homework and provide credible references to be worthy of one of these cattos. Over 30 kitties have been adopted from this amazing place to date!
7. Loving the books
Right at home in the middle of the bookshelf!
8. Something for everyone here!
9. Shhh! Can’t disturb these babies
According to Helmke, “People come here specifically to see the cats, and then some people just wander in to look at books and discover there are kittens,” “Either way, the response has been really great—I mean, who doesn’t love kittens, right?” She has the right idea as this has been a popular spot for kitten adoption and hopefully, the numbers will continue to rise!
Helmke further added: “We have a hundred percent adoption rate, which is fantastic. I’m so happy to make my customers happy when they come in and they’re just thrilled to see a kitten they weren’t expecting… It’s amazing and makes me happy to come to work.”
10. Red alert!
Playtime is the best time!
11. This kitty’s an avid reader
Just look at the mini paw!
12. The bookshelves are their home
During an interview, a South Paw Conservation representative said: “Otis & Clementine’s Books and Coffee is one of many loving foster homes that provide an enriching environment for our kittens and cats. It’s amazing to have this unique platform to help home our kitties.”
They further explained that all cats are “vet checked, vaccinated, feline leukaemia tested, treated with revolution, and dewormed within the first few days of arrival or when healthy/old enough.”
13. Fits right in that palm!
14. Little fur balls!
According to the representative: “We have a spay and neuter program set up with local vets (Hammonds Plains Veterinary Hospital/Tantallon Veterinary Hospital) to keep the cost down for the potential family. Homing kittens or cats is not first come first serve. We try to home our babies with the best possible fit. Some require a more quiet space free from other animals, but still maybe enjoy the snuggles at night and some are more playful and outgoing.”
“Some of our kittens require to be bottle-fed or even just be in a space where they can be monitored 24 hours a day. We have an amazing foster network that helps us to meet all their needs. All of this is made possible through donations and adoption fees.”
15. Playtime at his favourite place
Found a jungle gym!
16. This one loves being tickled
Hoomans and cattos unite
17. This kitty loves all hoomans!
The cause is truly heartwarming. The rep further informed: “We just did a conservation trip to Antigua earlier this month. We took 5 people. We spent time in a psychiatric hospital doing crafts with residents, worked in a soup kitchen, rescued 7 puppies and dogs which we will provide shelter and medical care for until they are able to return to Canada with us. We took 5 bags of humanitarian supplies and brought 3 puppies home with us.”
“We are headed back to Antigua on March 4th to bring home 6 of the puppies we rescued and one 10-month-old we have had in foster since August. We are fundraising like crazy to pay all the medical and travel costs.”
18. Never letting this hooman go!
Now let’s go ahead and take a look at some of the reactions of people!
According to the South Paw Conservation representative: “South Paw Conservation rescued 30 puppies in 2019 from the Bahamas and Antigua and well over 50 kittens and cats locally. Really hoping the platform of attention we receive from Otis & Clementine’s will help us to find loving homes, provide proper medical care, food and litter through donations and spay/neuter even more kitties within the province in 2020.”
Now that you’ve laid your own eyes on these beautiful felines, we’re sure you’ll agree that it’s an amazing cause and all these babies deserve the best and most loving homes! Let us know in the comments what you think of the bookstore and which cat you found the most adorable!
