Pet parents are a big thing nowadays.
I mean, don’t get me wrong, even I call my cat my baby most of the time but I also know that he is a cat and not a human. Now I am not saying that this makes him any less special to me but it is also not the same as having a human child. While I won’t say that having a pet is a walk in the park because it can require a lot of money and time to take care of them but it is still less expensive than a human child.
And animals can take care of themselves for the most part while kids can’t so there are a lot of sacrifices that a parent has to make for the child. So it is no surprise that some parents don’t like it when pet parents compare themselves to human parents. Now, I don’t think this is such a big deal because you do learn a bit about parenting in general when you have a pet even if it is not the same and it honestly does no one good to get angry about every little thing in this world.

It is clear from the start that guy isn’t the best pet parent but still tries to sound like he has a lot of problems.
However, some pets indeed require a little extra attention which is perfectly normal as well.
But this woman thought it was insulting for him to compare a pet parent to her.
I don’t know about you but I think the single mother took it way too seriously. I know having a human child is way harder than having a pet but does it really matter at the end of the day? The guy was clearly just trying to commiserate. And are some people’s values so tied to them being a parent that they feel devalued if a pet parent tried to compare to them? I personally think both of them are in the wrong somewhat. The guy should have never made the comparison and the last line about ‘I won’t stand for it’ was way over the top.

I think we can all agree that being a pet parent is not the same.
Even if we do treat our pets like babies at times.
I agree that it was a weird thing to do to even start comparing.
And he doesn’t sound like a great pet parent either.
