Our tendency to claim and defend our space is deeply ingrained in our nature, originating from the primitive parts of our brains. These instincts can sometimes lead to unnecessary conflicts with neighbors, where we argue over small pieces of land without really thinking about it.
Imagine a situation where some neighbors started a pointless feud with a new neighbor who was just trying to be friendly. Instead of appreciating the gesture, they turned it into a silly argument. Eventually, their pettiness backfired when the new neighbor, pushed too far, took action. As a result, they ended up losing more of their yard than they were originally arguing about.
Keep on scrolling down below to read the whole story narrated by OP and make sure to read it till the end.
1. OP and her wife bought their first home in early 2021 and according to OP it was the perfect time, their house is an older neighborhood but a new build.

via
2. When they bought their house the backyard needed work and it was about 100 feet deep due to overgrown vines, bushes, and small trees. Moreover, OP said their plot is shaped like a parallelogram.

via
3. OP and her wife worked very hard to start cleaning it and it turns out that they still had 25 feet deep backyard to play with when it was removed

via
4. In between cleaning the land OP and her wife thought they hadn’t met or talked to these neighbors yet so they decided to stop there for now because it was also getting colder

via
5. Fast forward to springtime the patchwork fence had long fallen and limbs and things had been removed, OP started mowing his lawn and he mowed from the front stake diagonally.

via
6. OP was curious as he went to cut his grass and saw rocks and sticks laid down way into his yard about halfway down, and he wondered why his neighbor would put them there.

via
7. When OP pulled out their survey from when the house was being built it was right on the spot

via
8. OP went to move the rocks to the back of his yard and all of a sudden, he saw a male neighbor approaching OP he said do you know you removed our privacy plants and claimed that this was all their yard.

via
9. OP said that their survey shows that it’s all on point but he says her wife works for the city and they can see exactly where the plots are and my plots go to her pointing 15 feet into OP’s yard

via
10. OP told him that they could;ld split the cost of the survey but he wasn’t interested then OP went to do his things in his yard and two weeks passed by and when he went to cut his grass he saw bricks, rocks, more limbs, and now OP is irritated. So OP knocked on their door but there was no answer.

via
11. Next week when OP saw him getting into his car later that evening he asked why do they cut his string? He replied, “My mower must have run over it”.

via
12. OP said to him that it was strange his mower ran over it and ended up in his yard where he said my yard ends, then OP told him that his survey was new and more likely to be right to which he replied ” Well then I guess you are going to have to pay to get a new survey done”

via
13. OP paid $550 and got the survey done moreover, they put up a total of 15 stakes down that side of the property line.

via
14. OP was wrong about his yard didn’t go where he thought it did instead, it went further into their yard by 4 in some places.

via
15. As OP was worried that they would try to mess with them he bought some outdoor cameras pointed them at his property line and went on the vacations when he saw the camera he saw that his wife was taking up all the stakes

via
16. When OP confronted them he claimed that he never got his note and didn’t know anything about any stakes and when OP told him about his wife on video removing all stakes he said he will talk to her

via
17. OP said to him you won’t remove the stakes again and you will be paying for another survey

via
18. And when OP called the next lowest quote he got they were willing to do it for $900 OP told him let me get back to you and let my neighbor know, upon hearing this the neighbor got fumed saying it doesn’t cost that much.

via
19. When he said he wouldn’t be paying $900 OP made him an offer that he should pay a $500 fine instead then

via
20. Next day OP is handed $900 in dollar bills

via
21. Too long didn’t read try this

via
22. All bad neighbors deserve to be avenged like this

via
23. More than a yard it is

via
24. It turns out that the neighbor shouldn’t have told OP to get the survey done again lol

via
25. It must have felt very good I assure you that

via
26. You get what you deserve and the neighbor got what he deserved
