One of the most adored Disney princess movies is Sleeping Beauty, but it also features one of the most troublesome plots. Maleficent, who serves as a shoddy justification for a woman’s vengeance and hatefulness, is enraged about not being welcomed to Princess Aurora’s christening, which sparks the fight. In the epilogue, Prince Phillip is similarly forced to use a “true love’s kiss” to reawaken the cursed Aurora.
Disney’s live-action Maleficent avoids the issue of Aurora being kissed against her will to remove a spell, despite giving the villain a backstory to support her angry spirit. Disney has to change its flawed strategy of saving women with just an extramarital kiss in all of its films, including Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. The company needs to come up with another way to end a curse in a remake.#
