Teacher Ignores Overwhelmed Student Who Had To Complete 137 Assignments In A Single Day, Mom Snapped

This school burdened its students like crazy.

A school is a place where you go to get learned but more importantly, you go there to get groomed. The whole idea of schooling, in general, is to prepare the student for the real world. Side note, things are very different in the real world and what they teach us won’t be helping us much. What helps is our personal experiences and you really need a fresh mind to take everything in because after all, you have that pressure of passing exams, being promoted to the next class, and all. Having a fresh brain means getting work that is not overwhelming to complete and being able to understand what is actually happening in the class.

Unfortunately, this one school had no regard for the student’s capacity to learn as they imposed a policy shift that shifted too much burden on the children. Reddit user u/anon291throw‘s daughter goes to a school that suddenly shifted its entire education system online. They even provided tablets to the students that their parents got installed in their houses. But the problem was, that there was no training given to the students or the parents on how to use the school’s new online pages. Even worse, the students got given 137 assignments on day one of online study and they had to submit the work on the same day. One day, during a zoom meeting, the teacher asked all students how the new system was going and OP’s daughter responded by saying she was feeling overwhelmed. To this, the entitled teacher responded with “Well, life isn’t fair”. OP snapped at the teacher for this comment.

1. A story that involves a teacher who has no emotions.

2. OP’s daughter’s school recently shifted to remote work.

Just wanted to mention a big flaw in remote working. The teachers throw so much work at you because they assume you are learning from the comfort of your best couch so you can do anything. When you physically go to school, as OP mentioned, they didn’t use to give you any homework or take-home assignments.

3. Is this a stock market or something? 137 assignments to an 8-year-old that are to be submitted on the same day as assigned? This school has gone nuts.

I am pretty sure half of the students have no clue how to use this online system i.e. how to submit work, how to log in, etc…

4. Mother and daughter spent the entire day trying to complete those 137 assignments and this also didn’t allow the mother to give proper attention to her other daughter.

5. Given the description of this teacher as shared by OP, you just couldn’t expect anything less than what they said. This is so disappointing and unfair.

6. No teacher, you said exactly what you wanted to say and knew exactly how bad it was.

7. This is great. You tell them, OP. That one student who was feeling the pressure of this new method of study…got ignored.

8. I am sorry but what is this husband on about? I want to see how he would react if one day his boss gave him 137 assignments to complete on the same day, and that too on a new portal that no one knows how to use.

9. This is not learning, this is punishing.

Who does that teacher think they are? I mean how entitled do you have to be to just shift your entire burden on the students and don’t care because you think they are chilling in their homes and they will easily cover all 137 assignments in a single day? I cannot even get over that number. The mom did an amazing thing by not letting the matter and she should go to the school board if the school itself doesn’t help her out. No, the mom was NTA. The AHs in this story are the entitled teacher and OP’s husband.

Here are some of the comments on the story:

10. Just don’t do the work, they won’t be able to do anything about it.
