No one has put the burden on you to hold the door for people. It’s not your job to be fair, but it’s the thought that counts. It is likely that most people will appreciate what you have done for them. When you saw that everyone was forming a line, you thought you were so special that you decided to jump the line. Upon arriving on the train or bus, you’re so focused on getting a seat that you don’t care about giving the passengers a chance to exit.
Let’s play the surrogate parent who tells you what you’re doing isn’t good enough. No matter how you look at it, being thoughtless and inconsiderate doesn’t help much, you’ll always be considered a jerk.
During a recent thread on Reddit, a member of the r/AmItheAsshole community shared a post regarding an incident she had on a plane. In addition to telling her what an A-hole she was, people also offered different ways she could have handled the situation. Apparently, an allergic woman went on a 1-hour flight with her friends to go on a vacation, despite being unable to be in a confined space with dogs. In the process of boarding, she discovers that another passenger has a golden retriever wearing a guide dog vest. According to her, if she took the flight with the dog, she might end up in the hospital. According to the flight attendant, the woman can’t miss her flight as she is visiting a sick relative. The next flight available was in two hours, so she was offered, a first-class seat, she denied the offer coldly, saying she had already paid for her vacation. Her seemingly inconsiderate attitude, however, was not well received by the woman, another passenger – who called her “heartless” and the Reddit community as a whole.
