Cats can be quite lazy.
I know we already know this and this statement does not apply to every cat breed but it does apply to many cats. Cats are after all not like dogs and they do like napping much more than going on walks. However, they don’t usually take a nap on their expensive comfortable bed. They usually choose the weirdest place to sleep and I have never understood why. Some people theorize it is because they want to sleep with their back to the wall or something solid.
I suppose it is because that is the only way they feel safe and they will usually sleep in such a way so they can see what is happening in front of them as to keep an eye on their surroundings. Although sometimes they will sleep with their back to you and that usually means that they trust you implicitly and know that you will not hurt them. But I don’t have an answer to why a cat would sleep on a banister or between couch cushions. Some things are best left as mysteries.

I know that some of these places look quite in the open and since cats don’t have a camouflage ability, it is usually quite easy to spot them but that doesn’t mean they don’t try to hide. According to experts, cats like to sleep in places where no one would look for them. It is just another way they try to protect themself from danger even if there is none around them. It is basically in their genetic code to always be wary of everything and everyone even if your cat has never been outside.
