This tattoo artist was frustrated when he received a request for a free tattoo from an entitled beggar who had dismissed his profession as “only a hobby.”
The purple messages in the linked text message exchange were posted by u/rockpaperpowerfist, the tattoo artist in question. The statements were uploaded to the r/mildlyinfuring section on Reddit. A part of the site where individuals, naturally, publish moderately annoying things.
This, in my opinion, goes beyond “mildly” and into “very.” It’s exhausting to see all of these talented people being asked to labor for free or for “exposure” by entitled jerks who desperately need but refuse to pay for their services. You’d do it yourself if it were that simple to do it well. Wouldn’t you agree? Before asking for a free design, this person appreciated u/work. rockpaperpowerfist’s.
The artist replied that they “Don’t work for free.” To which the entitled beggar answered that “If you enjoy it, then it’s not really work,” and that “tattooing is just a hobby.”
The original poster and commenters had a lot of fun with these comments, saying that this logic could be applied to anything. “You owning my house is merely a pastime,” u/rockpaperpowerfist proposed that everyone inform their landlords. They also refuse to pay their rent. People wouldn’t be able to get away with being so entitled in other areas of spending. So, why is everyone so hell-bent on defrauding artists of their dues? Some people are legit choosing beggars they don’t understand others all they want is things to be their way. People like that get pissed off and mad like they are the only ones to deserve it. It’s simple why would some tattoo artist do his job for free? I mean what about the ink he purchased? And what about the time that he is gonna spend tattooing that stupid person. Sadly these kinds of people exist.
