Parents need a break too sometimes.
You can never fully understand parenting until you become a parent. It really is not easy. No matter how prepared you think you are, your experience will be full of all sorts of surprises and you will have to improvise. Even though parenthood is a beautiful experience, it can be very tiring. You have to give all your time and energy to your child when they are young. You have to make sure they grow up in the right environment so they can become healthy, open-minded human beings. To reach that goal, people apply all sorts of parenting techniques. Some people believe it is better to be safe than sorry, so they become strict parents. They do not allow their children to do certain things and keep a list of rules for them to follow. Other parents believe that their children should be allowed to explore the world and make mistakes. They will learn a lot of lessons this way and choose their own paths. Whatever parenting style people use, their intentions are always to make their children good people. All this can be really exhausting because even parents can make mistakes. But the sad truth is, the world is very unforgiving towards parents. Parents are judged all the time for their parenting styles and the decisions they make. It is almost like people don’t believe parents can be their own individual beings.
This woman on Reddit likes to take her toddler to a coffee shop in the mall. The toddler is quite well-behaved and she never takes her child there when she is being cranky. An old lady had been muttering very rude words regarding the woman and her child, so she asked if she was wrong for bringing her daughter there. The woman explained that she is a work from home mom. She is also finishing her postgraduate degree and raising her daughter alongside. Her husband spends long hours at work and is mostly away.
To take a break, the woman visits a small coffee shop in the mall and takes her daughter with her. The servers all love the child and she also leaves big tips for them in case she ever causes an inconvenience.
She only visits the shop for about 30 minutes and walks her daughter around the lobby. She makes sure to keep her daughter away from people that seem busy.
An old lady would sit next to their table and mutter all sorts of rude words about the woman. She called her a horrible mother as well.
The woman’s friends said that she was wrong for bringing her daughter to the cafe as it could be bothering people. So she asked if she was wrong for bringing her toddler to the cafe.
This woman seems like a very aware mom. She knows her limits and how to handle her child in public. If her child was throwing tantrums and bothering people, it would be a different story. The child does not seem to bother anyone so there is nothing wrong with bringing her child to the coffee shop.
