Dads who control their children end up getting nowhere. It’s the concept of the 80s that too with a lot of leaks, wouldn’t always work back then too. Unfortunately, we still have such Dads in modern society who only want their children to walk on the path they draw and do what satisfies their fathers’ needs and wants.
Coming straight at you from the infamous subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?“, today we have a story about a controlling Dad who only gave his daughter stress in her life and nothing else. Reddit user u/yeasothat shared he would put restrictions on her regarding the minimum grades that she is allowed to get, the classes she is allowed to take, and so on and so forth. Her college was going to be a 4-year long journey and she realized she will not be able to take all that stress coming from her father, it would get impossible for her to focus on her education life while maintaining a solid social life. So she decided she will pay for her college herself. And on one family gathering when one of her uncles asked her father about how his daughter’s college was going and how much it cost him, the daughter openly announced that her father is not paying her tuition fee, she is doing it herself.

OP was NTA. She did nothing wrong there, she only spoke the truth. The intention in no way was to make him feel embarrassed. And to be honest, the way he had been controlling his daughter’s life, he really should be embarrassed by himself for being a terrible dad. What Dad says I will not pay for your education if you get grades lower than B. Come on dude, don’t ruin your girl’s life. If what she said hurt the dad, then it is his problem. Truth can be bitter.
