Manager Asks If They Are Wrong For Denying Vacation To A New Employee, Internet Calls Him Out

Vacations can be very important.

Especially since in recent years, everyone has become work-related. I am not saying that a job is inherently bad since we all need to eat. However, in many countries, work has become the main motivation in life and you’re not even supposed to have hobbies because it is just ‘a waste of time’. And that is not even mentioning the absurd amount of unpaid overtime or answering work emails at home. Basically, there is a lot of stress that comes with being an employee even if you’re paid in pennies.

Most people would have gone crazy long ago if we didn’t have a thing called vacations. In many countries, an employer is supposed to give mandatory vacations to their employees. These vacations are basically paid and the only time the employee can have a relaxing time away from any sort of responsibility. So it is no surprise that no person would be okay giving up their vacation time for anything.

However, that is exactly what this manager wanted from their new hire. You can scroll below to see what happened next.

It is not common for managers to post on this subreddit since most Redditors aren’t usually big fans of higher-ups.

However, we do get some background as to how this person got into this mess.

Rather than talking it out with her, this person basically said they couldn’t allow her to go on vacation.

So unsurprisingly, the new hire was ready to quit and did so without making a big fuss.

Things didn’t just end there as the manager was called into the boss’s office to explain.

I am honestly surprised that the manager even needed to ask random strangers on the Internet whether what they did was wrong. because to me, it seems perfectly clear that they didn’t care about the new hire. Not only that but the new hire had explicitly told the manager that she would only join if they let her have the vacation days. So how did this manager think it would go? Did they think she would forget all about her vacation and continue to work at the company?

People in the comments weren’t on the managers’ side either.

There were even some managers in the comments who were surprised at the poster’s behavior.

It honestly does seem like the manager thought they could get away with it but got caught red-handed at the end.

I am surprised that the manager thought they could get away with this.

I hope the boss took the new hire’s side and explained the situation to the manager.

And the poster didn’t care about the condition so she quit. It really is as simple as that.

This person does give a bad name to all managers.
