Employee Quits Job After Boss Calls Her Mom Being Sick “Not My Problem”

Quit Office Job

Suppose you start making a million dollars every month. You will be regarded as a very successful person. Perhaps some will say you have achieved everything. But if your family is not at the top of your priority list, for me you are nothing but an absolute failure. Forgetting about your family is not the way to go about it and that is exactly the rule OP kept in her mind and followed, not letting her job get in the way.

This Reddit user took it to the internet to share that one day, on her day off, her boss called. He wanted OP to cover for his sister-in-law’s shift. OP shared she doesn’t mind covering for other employees but this was jut a few minutes before opening and she had other commitments including taking care of her sick mother who was in the hospital so she declined. The boss got angry and said her sick mother wasn’t his problem and that she should come to work. This made OP really angry.

The matter only got worse when OP found out that the SIL wasn’t sick, instead, she was having a delicious breakfast with her family, including the boss. After seeing the online post shared b SIL, OP shared the same with her boss and also told him she is quitting.

Surely whatever happened with OP has a lot of weight to it. Working a job for 2 years means you are satisfied with it, it is paying you well and is allowing you to make ends meet. Leaving such a job requires a very solid reason.

3. On her day off, OP received a call from her boss to cover his SIL’s shift.

4. OP shared that normally she would be fine covering shifts for others but the notice was sent to her in the last minutes so she didn’t show any willingness.

5. There were other, very significant, commitments that OP had to honor that day so she respectibly said no to her boss.

6. Oh this would trigger anyone. The fact that OP had to look after her mother who was in the hospital was regarded as “not my problem” by her boss.

7. OP did not go to work and it worked well for her as she saw an online post made by SIL who was enjoying breakfast with family, including the boss.

Where did that sickness go now, huh? So, basically, the boss was prioritizing a breakfast with SIL over OP looking after her mother at the hospital. So disgraceful. I really don’t understand how this people get promoted to such high positions. Positions that require so many high-level responsibilities to be honored.

The guy said OP’s mother being sick wasn’t his problem just because he wanted to have a fancy dine-in breakfast. Terrible!
