Join us for a captivating tale of lost connections and surprising reunions. It all began when OP returned to their hometown to assist a friend with his car. During lunch at a familiar spot, they unexpectedly encountered their former stepmother and stepbrother. OP’s relationship with his stepmother wasn’t exactly the best. 2. One time while OP was having lunch with his friend, his ex-stepmom and ex-stepbrother showed up at the same spot.
3. The ex-stepbrother and OP didn’t talk much but he did have a good bond formed with OP’s younger sibling.
4. So this is why OP has hated his ex-stepmom. He caught his dad cheating on his mother with her.
5. After the dad married his ex-stepmom, OP had to become an adult before time to support his mother and younger brother.
6. Things went full circle. I did not expect this.
7. Back to the story. The ex-stepmom decided to approach OP to say hi. OP barked back like an aggressive dog.
8. OP ignored the mother and greeted his stepbrother with a bright smile.
9. She felt the ignorance pinching her so she tapped on OP’s shoulder to get his attention. That was enough to make him go off. All that anger building up for years came out.
10. She said he was just being a nice person but didn’t have any of it.

Perhaps a better tone could have been used by OP. After all, all she did was greet him. Had she punched him or done anything aggressive then the tone would’ve been justified. But not like this. Having said that, OP had all of that anger building within him for so many years. This was a perfect setup for it to all come up. All the fire needed was a little spark to ignite. The tap on the shoulder was enough for that to happen.
So, I would actually call OP NTA.
11. OP’s family did not side with him on this. So the matter was taken to the courts of the AITA community.
12. OP’s friend understood where all that heat came from but he too called the response a bit too extreme.
13. In an update, OP shared why he called his ex-stepbrother a “civilian”. He was calling him innocent by using that term.
