Christmas is all about family. But when your family doesn’t make you feel comfortable, then is it really worth it spending the event with them? That is exactly what happened in today’s story. Reddit user u/No_Review8351 shared that whenever she and her boyfriend would spend Christmas with her side of the family, her mother would never let the couple share a bed. This frustrated them both as the boyfriend suggested they rent a hotel the next time the two go to her mother’s for Christmas.
For the latest Christmas, the two decided to spend Christmas with the boyfriend’s parents in Mexico. OP didn’t tell her mother about this and left her assuming the two would show up but that didn’t happen. While in Mexico enjoying Christmas with her future in-laws, OP went online and noticed a post made by her family lashing out at her for lying and not showing up for Christmas.
The matter was taken to the courts of the AITA community by OP to know if what she did was right or not.

6. While enjoying the views of the Caribbean celebrating Christmas with her boyfriend’s parents, OP decided to go online and found an online post made by his mother lashing out at her for not celebrating Christmas with her side of the family.
7. OP decided to respond to the post with all the truth and everything she had in her heart.

I think you cannot declare anyone directly an AH or NTA in this story. I feel like both parties were kind of wrong in their own ways. The mother was wrong for not allowing OP and her boyfriend to share a bed in the first place. And then she was wrong for making an online post trying to embarrass OP in front of everyone.
On the other hand, I would say OP was an AH for not telling her mom about her plans to visit her boyfriend’s family for Christmas. I don’t have any problem with the decision, but she could’ve at least informed her family that they were not on priority this year.
