A Redditor recently got met with a lot of confusion as she took a flight with her boss after attending a conference. OP is a frequent flyer and always uses the airline’s, they were using to fly, credit card to purchase her tickets. This would allow her to use the collected points or miles to get free seat upgrades or a free ticket, at times, entirely. And that is exactly what happened that day. OP and her boss did fly on the same plane but OP got her seat upgraded to first class for free while her boss had to travel in economy class.
Once they landed and were collecting their bags, the boss started a conversation with OP and said that she should’ve let her fly on the first-class seat and that she has no respect for the protocol.
OP had no idea if she did right or not so she decided to share the matter with the sacred community members of the subreddit “Am I The A$$hole?” to have them determine if she was the AH or not, for not giving her first class seat to her boss.
Scroll down below to read how it all went down!
1. OP was returning home with her boss on a flight after attending a conference together.

2. OP got upgraded to first class because she was a frequent flyer and her boss had to fly economy.

3. While collecting their bags after landing, the boss approached OP about something.

4. The boss said OP should’ve given her first-class seat to her because the company paid for her original ticket.
Via u/scootindog
5. But OP got the upgrade because of her own credit card use and frequent traveling so giving the seat away didn’t make any sense.

6. Confused, OP took the matter to the community members of AITA to know if she was wrong or not.

OP decided to respond to some comments. Here they are:
7. The company allows OP to use her card for miles so in no way would the boss be entitled to her first-class seat.
Via u/scootindog
8. OP got suggested to report the matter to the HR department.
Via u/scootindog
9. OP’s boss is not the owner just higher on the chain of command.
Via u/scootindog
10. OP should look for another job.
Via u/scootindog
11. The boss is basically just another employee at the company and no employee is entitled to another employee’s personal rewards.
Via u/scootindog
12. It all makes sense now.
Via u/scootindog
13. Keep documenting every instance she behaves rudely with you and then go to HR.
Via u/scootindog
14. The boss knew exactly what happened and how OP got that upgrade.

OP was NTA. As per the company’s policy, employees are allowed to use their airline cards to purchase the tickets and whatever the amount is it will be given to the employees. Now due to the frequent usage of their airline credit card, OP got that free seat upgrade to first class. And it didn’t happen for the first time as OP did mention she had used her card score to get free upgrades in the past too.
This was nothing but an episode of an entitled boss feeling extremely jealous because her subordinate traveled in a premium way she had to “suffer” in the economy class.
Here are some of the comments shared on the story:
15. OP’s upgrade, OP’s seat.

16. The 50-year-old boss certainly behaved like a 5-year-old.
Via u/scootindog
17. The boss was just jealous of OP flying in first class.
Via u/scootindog
18. Surely her entitlement issues are far worse than OP’s lack of respect for protocol.
Via u/scootindog
19. She won’t be able to because there isn’t one.
Via u/scootindog
20. She just couldn’t stand an employee working under her fly on a better seat.
Via u/scootindog
21. That is how it should be.
Via u/scootindog
22. I have a special hatred for such people.
Via u/scootindog
23. An unfortunate reality.
