Babysitting is actually a huge responsibility.
Even though people think that because usual babysitters are of a young age, it must not be a very difficult job. It is more complicated than that. Not everyone can babysit. You need to make sure you are skilled enough to handle the job right. You should be good with children, know how to manage them, and have basic medical knowledge in case of emergencies. When you agree to babysit a child, you are accountable for whatever happens to them while the parents are away. So you should not take up such a huge responsibility if you feel like you aren’t equipped enough for it. It is easier said than done. A babysitter must know their limits so they can refuse a job they can not manage.
This babysitter shared her story of being offered to babysit two children. She agreed to the job at first, but at the last moment, she was told that one of the children was autistic and the other had a deadly allergy. The 16-year-old girl used to babysit a lady named Diana’s children every day in summer.
One day, Diana forwarded the girl’s number to a friend who needed a babysitter. The friend, Jennifer, texted the girl and asked her a lot of questions which made her feel weird.
When the girl showed up at the house, Jennifer just casually let her know on the way out that one of her children is autistic, and the other had a deadly allergy.
She politely refused to do the job as she was not equipped to do it.
Jennifer got mad that she ruined her night.
So, the girl asked if she was wrong for refusing to babysit those children.

If she had taken up the job and she had to face a situation she did not know how to handle, she would be accountable for whatever happened to those children. She knew what she was capable of and did not test her limits. It shows huge responsibility on the 16-year-old’s part. She did nothing wrong for refusing to babysit Jennifer’s children.
