Does adopting an animal mean you can rename it?
Coming to you guys straight from the infamous community of ‘Am I The A$$hole?’, today we have got for you guys a story about a dog and a confusing drama around it that made that caused the OP to leave their fate before the sacred community members of AITA with regard to whether they were an AH or were they NTA.
Dogs love their owners. No matter what the conditions are and even if the whole world turns against you, you can blindly trust the fact that your dog will always be by your side showering its unconditional love on you. Our dogs always try their best to ensure our happiness. They make it their purpose to make their loved ones’ lives free of stress and full of joy.
Unfortunately, there can occur some circumstances that may result in you having to separate from your dog. It could be you have to leave the country and the situation could be like so that you may not be able to bring your dog with you. Whatever the situation is, as a loving and committed dog owner, you want to make sure your best friend is in good hands before you move on with your life.
Without giving much away, today’s story is about a dog owner who had to give their dog, Willy, for quite a genuine reason. One day he called Willy’s new family only to realize they had renamed him “Rudy”. This angered OP and the two parties ended up getting into a major fight.
Why did the whole renaming thing infuriate OP, how did the fight end, and what made OP rest their fate before the AITA subreddit? You must find out the answers to all these questions by reading the story down below.
1. Permissions? After you gave it away? Hmm…Let’s just read what happened.

OP, with all due respect you are the AH, and a massive one. Who told this person he has any right over that dog once he gave it up for adoption…and it got adopted by a new family. OP should consider himself lucky that his new family allowed him to keep in touch with his dog, and get updates on him. That alone is a huge favor. And in no way does it mean OP has authority over “his WIlly” anymore. The dog now belongs to someone else who can name it whatever they want. End of story.
Here’s what the internet had to say:
11. Brother, you had no claim on that dog the day you gave it away for adoption.

12. Owing to the fight, you may now never get any update on “their” dog.

13. I swear I would’ve called the police right away.

14. If the dog is responding normally to the name Rudy, I don’t think anyone should have a problem with that.

15. He took the shock as if it was still his dog and the new family stole it.

16. Word.

“Last July a stray kitten came into my office, she looked at me like ‘you are my human,’ so I adopted her. Today, this happened. Guess now I’m an owner of another good girl.”
