It can be incredibly aggravating when a co-worker who lacks the understanding of your job, has the right to rearrange your job without consultation.
This becomes even more frustrating when they disregard any worries you may have about their proposed changes. In any workplace, there are times when policies and procedures need to be implemented or changed. However, when a manager makes a decision that negatively impacts the entire company, it can lead to employee dissatisfaction, reduced productivity, and even job loss. A Reddit user and manager of a software development team, faced a similar situation when their security manager insisted on revoking administrator rights for the entire team’s computers. Despite their efforts to prevent it, the security manager refused to reconsider his decision. So, the only option the team was left with was malicious compliance. Scroll down for the complete story.

OP asked for 20 hours per week from a guy to unlock installations as needed. The admin was happy about it as this reduces the number of tickets submitted.

One application had a critical bug outside of the support center guy, so OP told them that his team cannot work on the product and will wait the next day.

While policies and procedures are necessary for any workplace, it is important for managers to listen to and consider feedback from their employees. When managers fail to do so, it can lead to employee dissatisfaction, decreased productivity, and even job loss. In this case, the employees of the company used malicious compliance to demonstrate the inefficiencies of a new policy, leading to the termination of the manager responsible for it.
The support center manager had a lot of connections within the company, and along with the postmortem woman, convinced the VP to fire the security manager.
