Artist With Anxiety Illustrates Mental Illnesses As Real Monsters And It’s Chilling

Mental illness is a serious issue throughout the world. As we grow more and more understanding of the subject and the conditions, the more we’re able to recognise them. A lot of people use the higher recognition as a way to say mental illness is on the rise, when it’s not. We’re just able to pick up on it this time.

The reason it’s so hard to notice or deal with mental illness is because you can’t actively see it. It’s an invisible monster, without a face, without a sound, without a voice. And that makes it a hundred times harder. Imagine trying to fight something blindfolded, because that’s exactly what dealing with mental illness is like.

In an interview with HuffingtonPost, he said;

“The project originated from imagining my own anxieties as monsters and finding it to be a cathartic and healing process to draw them. It made them feel weaker and I was able to look at my own anxiety in a comical way. I wanted to expand upon this idea and draw other representations of mental illnesses that could help people in the same way it helped me.”

Further, he explained:

“I want to make people aware of how damaging these illnesses are and how much of a burden they can be to those who suffer from them. The project also highlights conditions that some people may have never even heard of, so the work aims to raise awareness for these. I hope that people can relate to the work and that it helps them to see their illness in a different light, make it appear more manageable.”
